Most Manchester City fans want the season to end. It's been a wonderful run in the Premier League this time out, infinitely better than some of the pain staking performances (especially at home) that they had to endure last time out.
This season is different however. City had been in the running all season to claim a coveted UEFA Cup spot, some believed early on that a Champions League place even was possible. However, with a mid-season stutter and Spurs winning the League Cup, as well as the bizarre FA Cup results which meant no European placed sides left in to win, that only 5th spot would qualify for European competition next season.
That marked a downturn in fortunes for City, but they can look back on this campaign as progress despite defeat to Chelsea for the second time this season. They completed a long overdue 'double' on their main rivals (two results which could still cost United the title!) whilst an impressive early season home form look up instead of down for the majority of the season.
The most recent defeat was expected by most - Chelsea's league resurgence saw City falter thanks to Richard Dunne's own goal and Salomon Kalou's strike but Sven Goran Eriksson admitted after the match he wasn't too downbeat.
Although he felt the side showed 'too much respect' in the opening stages, he feels his squad is progressing nicely - however he added that a push on into the top 4 next time out would take serious spending.
Too finish, he stated he was less depressed this week than he was on City's last match when they crashed 3-1 to Birmingham City.
