Ex-Man City Players Grandson In Urgent Plea

Vital Manchester City received the following email from Carl Tilson, grandson of 1930's City star Fred Tilson.

My name is Carl Tilson, I'm 21 years old and I have a terminal muscle wasting illness called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy - I would like to mention I'm the grandson of Fred Tilson who played for Manchester City in the 1930's and for England!

Please could you help me!

I have created an online petition to the British Government to fund Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy because they are not funding us nearly enough, I work with a Charity called Action Duchenne formerly called Parent Project UK.

The government gave two million pounds towards a treatment called Exon Skipping, which is currently in clinical human trials - if successful, will improve the quality of life and prolong the lives for Duchenne sufferers! However, funding runs out this year, meaning trials will come to a halt! But to save our lives we need your support!

The petition reads:

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Fund Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy if human MDEX Exon Skipping trial works, from the lab to the Clinic! And help get a treatment for us!

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a severe muscle wasting disease which leads to paralysis and limited life expectancy. Nearly all of those affected are boys, who are likely to be using wheelchairs by the age of ten through progressive loss of muscle function, and needing full time care by their late teens. Survival beyond teenage years is rare.

Cause of this condition is due to a protein not being produced by the body called Dystrophin, which is responsible to protect and repair muscle - making muscle function properly!
