100,000 Glaswegians Expected To Invade Manchester

May 14 will see an estimated 100,000 Glasgow Rangers fans invade the City of Manchester when, Walter Smiths side face Zenit St Petersburg in the UEFA Cup Final.

Hotel rooms, air tickets and train seats have all become as hard to find as rocking horse ***t after the blue side of Glasgow beat Fiorentina on penalties in Thursday nights semi-final.

An estimated 15,000 tickets have been allocated to the Ibrox side, a figure that is woeful in terms of demand, especially when the City of Manchester Stadium holds close to 50,000 spectators.

David Edgar, spokesperson for the Rangers Supporters' Trust, said...

'We are looking at 100,000 fans going down. There are two ways Manchester can go about this. They can plan for what they want to happen or plan for what will happen.'

'Back on planet earth they need to be preparing for having 100,000 fans in the city. Manchester made the bid to get this final, they won it and now they have to deal with it.'

'They have to accept this is an exceptional situation and they will have to deal with it in an exceptional way.'

'People just want to be there. It's not just about watching the game at the stadium; it's about sharing the experience.'

A representative for Visit Manchester was quoted as saying...

'Virtually all hotel rooms in the city have been booked up'

Vital Manchester City says...

'Surely, the authorities could arrange the erection of huge screens in so-called Fans Zones. At least the Mad-Jocks (no offence meant) could he herded into designated areas, well away from the sane members of public!

Just think, the Super Cup could be between Rangers and Chelsea. Good luck both set of teams.

I am gutted that I will be on a ferry to Santander whilst the final is being played. I won tickets in the UEFA lottery as well!! Probably still would have sold them though (got them for sale on ebid.net) but just to be in the City centre for the evening would be tremendous. I hope someone sees the light and puts it on big screens somewhere.

and wouldn't that be a great super cup - where will they play it?
merlin
Will they be taking the high road or the low road?

I don't think any country or stadium have been nominated. If Rangers and Chelsea win their respective competitions surely Hampden or Wembley stadiums must be the fore-runners.

wouldn,t be too exited at the prospect of these creatures invading your city if I were you ,, and this has nothing to do with me being a Celtic supporter ,, you'll find out soon enough yourself why they should never be allowed to travel anywhere ,, didn,t your own police force veto a friendly there in recent times ? just ask the good citizens of Barcelona why they never want them to return there again !!! hope all goes well for the decent people of Manchester ,, but I wouldn,t hold my breath waiting on a peaceful outcome ,, good luck to you !!!

I notice they have reduced the capacity of the stadium to 44,000 for this match I wonder why ???

A bad bunch of people. No doubt. Stepped in years of religious bigotry. I hope you have your chapels and cathedrals locked up.

don't listen to these two smeltic fans they're only jealous!

The club have confirmed that tickets will ONLY be sold to the respective finalists' Oh well, it looks like i'll have to watch the game on the TV.

as I said on the post above ,, I hope all goes well and the decent people of Manchester are treated with due respect ,, but I,ll be most surprised if this is the case ,, good luck ,, you'll need it ....
