Scolari In Manchester - Never!

Manchester City owner Thaksin Shinawatra might be considering his managerial options however, who on earth started the crazy 'Luis Felipe Scolari will replace Sven-Goran Eriksson' rumour?

Fact

Boxing Day 2006 Scolari told a Portuguese sports newspaper that he would be ending his term as coach of Portugal after Euro 2008...

'It is logical that at the end of Euro 2008 I leave when my contract ends. The work of a coach is limited to five or six years.'

'We are already in this time frame but after that, things become more difficult because they create habits and links with the players, which can result in things deteriorating.'




Various British Tabloids reported...

'Scolari remains tight-lipped about his future, but it appears Manchester City's chances of capturing him to replace Sven-Goran Eriksson are slim as the Brazilian is reluctant to move away from Portugal.

An obscure football internet site published the following...

'Last week Scolari said he 'knows nothing' of the purported interest from the Premiership club.'

'However, in today's edition of Portuguese sports daily, Record, it is reported that the World Cup winning coach has been offered a 4m euros a year contract, which is practically ten times his current salary paid by the Portuguese Football Federation.'

'Former Thai Prime Minister and multi-millionaire Srisumri
(note the spelling) has also promised the coach a transfer kitty of over 75 million euros as he attempts to turn the club into a force to be reckoned with in England.

Rumours

Rumours sell newspapers, especially when the name Manchester City, Thaksin Shinawatra and Luis Felipe Scolari are mentioned in the same breath. And why not?

The Barclay Brothers have made a mint in the publishing business, so much so they bought their very own island just a stones throw from Sark (Guernsey - Channel Islands).

Moreover, if that wasn't enough, savouring in the wonderful tax haven the Channel Islands offer, they even build their very own castle - ta-boot!

If City fans really believe everything they read in the national press, (which I doubt) then may I suggest they ask themselves the following question?

Interesting to see this morning that Das Daily Mail who seem to have always had reliable links at City reporting that Scolari is said to be unimpressed by the treatment of Sven. Nevermind the fact he doesn't fancy uprooting his family. Maybe Thaksin will wait until after Euro 2008 and we can look forward to 4 weeks of hit and miss transfer mayhem. Again.

I still think the Scolari thing is all paper talk he DOESN'T want to come to England end of story....What's the betting Sven is still at the helm next season.

I think Sven has had it, alphie and I'm guessing a good number of our squad have to. There has been no word from the chairman and now Scolari's people speak out that an MCFC offer is on the table. A shoddy way to do business with our gaffer still in place. A new manager puts us back to square one and a lot of the Blues backing Thaksin's judgement don't seem to see it, much as we don't seem to be seeing where the money is coming from...

It's all part of the modern world instant success society thing DD. Incidentally one of my Portuguese colleagues was laughing about it all today. He said that Scolari is widely seen in Portugal as having lost his fire, past it, etc and that Portugal's national side are garbage with little hope of winning Euro 2008!

Just heard on 5 Live that Scolari's agent has confirmed that no club rep has been in touch with them. As alphieblues says, it's just paper talk.

I agree, I think Toxinb has been testing the water so to speak and found nothing doing. The beeb and they always tell the truth, say that nothing has been decided and that Sven will lead the end of season tour. Odd for a man who is supposed to be out of a job. You'd think he would be down the job centre signing on.
