Celtic Is My First Choice - Georgios Samaras

Manchester City and Greece international Georgios Samaras has confirmed he wants to sign for Scottish Premier League Champions Celtic, on a permanent basis.

The 23-year-old striker spent most of last season on loan at Parkhead after being frozen out of City's starting 11, however, after having a relatively successful campaign for the green side of Glasgow, it is believed Hoops boss Gordon Strachan has been impresses by his contributions and has tabled a £3million bid for the 6'4 forward.

'Coming back to Celtic would still be my first choice,' Samaras told This is London. 'I had a great time at the club and the loan deal we made in January worked out really well. It helped Celtic, but it helped me too.

'Everything was correct during that time. I think the supporters took to me and I feel really happy about that. I also formed good relationships with my team-mates, the coaching staff and everyone else inside the club.'

'I hope that can all continue in the future because there was so much support and love shown to me at Celtic last season. I'm waiting to see what will happen over the next days.'

Samaras joined Manchester City for a fee of £5.25 million in January 2006 from Dutch side Heerenveen.

He must have impressed during his time at Celtic. Mind you a one legged donkey would impress the Celtic faithful!!

Who knows - he may start against us in the friendly, bag a hat-trick, and prove us all wrong! Then again ..........

It's a shame that you can't accept that just because a player wants to step up in the level he is playing doesn't suddenly make him a bad player. I remember when he came to Celtic on loan. Your websites were full of angry contributors who said he should be in the City first team and not being allowed to go out on loan. Give the guy a break. He is fed up playing in a second rate outfit in the most overrated league in the world. A league which has probably about a dozen Englishmen in it at that! He wants to be at the top, hence the choice of Paradise. But I have a concern. If he didn't get a game every week with your lot, he certainly won't with a far bigger outfit like Celtic. He'll make a good squad player in Paradise but he gets to use his passport too. So you are in Europe for the first time since Adam and Eve were courting but it will be for a very short time.

weetim67 ... take it a nerve has been touched??? We've given this guy 2yrs to show us what he is capable of. We've not got on his back, because we all hoped he was the "rough diamond" Pearce signed him as. He wasn't!!! He never will be at the level WE play at, becuase he's not good enough! If he performs well, in YOUR league against the standard of YOUR opponents, then good luck to him - no hard feelings! We'd rather have the £3m, and we'll just have to make do with our £19m strikers, in our second rate outift for our European adventure. Ps - Glasgow? Paradise? Lord God please send me to hell!!!!

Tudor good god take a look at yourself. last 16 in the champions league 2 years on the trot. even with your criminal benefactor you cant even dream of that. mediocrity is the only realistic goal for your small club.

Listen all you Scots, Andover and Basingstoke have a couple of strikers for sale, they are in a league a couple down from The Blue Square Premier, but even that should be sufficient to win your joke of a league! How can the top division in a country have a team the size of Gretna in it? Christ we have Post offices bigger than that!!
pentonpompey
Did not both Glasgow clubs only a couple of years ago want to join our tinpot league?
Buzz Lightyear
Celtic & Rangers do well in the SPL simply because they don't have any decent opposition. I suggest, let the Old Firm play in the English Championship and see how well they would do. I bet they would struggle to even finish in the top half!
Tudor
Check your history tudor - your a mouth piece son. In europe, whenever celtic (or rangers for that matter) play your big spending PREMIERSHIP teams we do better than hold our own. So, your crap about struggling to get top half in the 'championship' is showing you to be a clown kid. If celtic and ranger had the kind of transfer budget you little teams get we would storm your premiership. Difference is, we have history, you have tv revenue lol ;)

Sun Jihai also available for sale - £7m. He's a Chinese sensation you know! He'll be great in your superior league.
