Origin Of A Manchester City Fan

As a Man City supporter, have you ever been confronted by a fellow fan and told 'you weren't born in Manchester so you've no right to support the club'?

Anyone who has been subjected to the bigoted insult usually takes the verbal diarrhoea with a pinch of salt - don't they?

On my daily internet surf, I found two Manchester City fan website forums debating the very subject. In essence, one or two of the xenophobic posters were, like the Australian Heavy Metal group AC/DC sung way back in the 80's, 'Shot Down In Flames'.

I for one was not born in Manchester but in nearby Warrington. Did I have any choice of where I was born? - No. Do I still live in the North-West of England? - No I don't. Therefore, to some I wouldn't even qualify as a Blue.

The Metropolitan Boroughs of Manchester consist of the City of Manchester, Stockport, Tameside, Oldham, Rochdale, Bury, Bolton, Wigan, City of Salford and Old Trafford. I wonder how many of those teenage low intellectual posters, who, to my mind posted the aforementioned have ever ventured outside their own street, never mind the Boroughs.

I for one couldn't careless who says this and who says that. In fact, the thought of a small-minded spot infected ASBO ridden twit actually having the patience and intellect, oh, and the ability to read this, warms my heart.

Now, what was I saying.....

Why should anyone say you shouldn't be supporting Man City? You cannot exactly be classed as 'glory hunters' especially with the numpties you have just down the road.

All blues welcome in my eyes! As dazza71 rightly states, it can hardly be classed as taking the easy option. The minute you commit, you're consigning yourself to grey hairs, sleepless nights, occasion highs, and endless lows (hopefully about to change!!). It's never dull though, and that's the attraction!!!

Compared to Manure..i like love Man Cityyyyyyy

I was born in Cheshire, and now live in Kent, and I'm a seasoncard holder. My reply to anyone who were to question my right to support City, would be that when we were in the 2nd division, I made a 500 mile round trip to Maine rd for every home match, and whilst an average gate of 28,000 is superb for that league, it still meant that there were 6,000 'locals' who couldn't be arsed!

Well I'm from Ireland and I am certainly no glory-hunter, supporting City through the lows of the lower leagues. I spend a fortune every year travelling over to as many games as I can afford and also on merchandise... Yes people may say that I am not from Manchester, but it certainly doesn't mean my love for the club is less, if anything flights, hotels, tickets etc it proves my support of the club. Anyway, premiership football is global, and money from all over the world is only good news for any club. I have never had anyone from Manchester saying that I have no right to support the sky blues and would be very disappointed to hear that... Anyway, to the season ahead... I'm soooo looking forward to it, I think Hughes will be a success, last season we lacked goals, especially in the disappointing second half, and it is worth noting that most of Hughes' previous strikers score 20 goals plus. Top six finish, maybe even challenge Liverpool for fourth spot, it's certainly possible if we can repeat last season's start. Come on City!!!!

I'm from Chester, does that make me less of a man?

I was born in Old Trafford, that is just off Chorlton Road, I don't know if it is now classed as O.T. Went to every home game and a lot of away games between 1947-65. Including queuing all night at Maine Road for a ticket for the '55 Final. Moved away from the area and spent a lot of time away overseas on business so missed watching until 1994 missing all the glory years of the late '60's and early '70's. During my travels met loads of so called Rag supporters who didn't even know where O.T. was. I now make a 130 mile round trip to see every home game with my concession ticket. Does this not make me a true Blue being born a few hundred yards outside the City boundry as it was then.

Not a Mancunian either, born in Stockport, brought up in Marple, now live like alphie 130 miles away, no-one has ever challenged my right to be a blue. Seen us win almost every trophy going except the Premier and the Europeon cup. I love the club and it makes no difference where you come from when you pick your team no matter where you are in the world, you are just stuck with it.

Buzz, not having a go mate but I was born at Stepping Hill in Stockport, went to school in Stockport, live, eat and drink in Stockport, work in Stockport and guess what? I support Stockport County. Can you see how most County fans see people with the same background as me who support City or United are glory hunters.

Anyway, like your input on the site. Just wish the Vital County site had more people contributing.

Hope is wasn't the next bed KC. Glory hunting as a City fan, you can't accuse any City fan of that. Went to County on Friday nights, when they played,at home, and City on Saturday, but then they stopped and City had already got my heart. i still follow County on paper as I do most of the local teams and am always glad when they win.
