Santa Cruz Close To City Deal

Blackburn Rovers striker Roque Santa Cruz is on the verge of signing for Manchester City, Vital MC understands.

Mark Hughes signed the 6'2' Paraguayan international last year while he was the boss at Ewood Park, and is widely known to be a keen admirer of the 26-year-old.

The Manchester City manager gave executive chairman Garry Cook his list of wanted players when they were in Hamburg for the weekend friendly and Santa Cruz was believed to be high on Sparky's wish list.

Figures being banded suggest City will have to offer Rovers in the region of £8m to tempt Paul Ince into letting his prize forward leave the Lancashire club.

I think it will be ta-ra for Bianchi if Santa comes to town. Agree with villan, though. More money will surely be required.

I'd happily take him to Spurs to replace Berba if he leaves. 8mil seems a right bargain for someone who scores as many goals and helps create chances for others at the same time. Fair play if you get him, I just wish he was coming to us instead!

And HOW does Vital MC understand this?!?! 8 million, you're taking the ***** aren't you dude? If Bentley can go for anything up to 18 million even if we did sell Santa (which I HOPE not!!!) you'd need to pay at least the same!!!

Hope your info is right Tudor mate, but think the fee may be nearly double the 8m. JB is probably right about Bianchi, if anyone will take him on his wages. Exciting times!!!

i agree, he'll cost much more than 8m. if you do get him he'll be a major coup and will immediately make man city better.

I fear for Blackburn this season seeing as you're asset stripping them!

8m was a typing error, it was meant to be 18m!!!! Even so, Ince stated he would not allow his best players to leave. Friedel was then allowed to leave, fans initially disappointed but as he was quickly replaced by a younger international keeper, that was grudgingly accepted. Bentley allowed to go but 18.5m will buy his replacement, plus two midfielders and a right back. No need for any more new inbound at Ewood Park after those 4. Therefor no need to sell Santa Cruz, not even for the 20m that such a goal scoring machine must be worth. Ince can not afford to let another top player leave or he would loose all credibility. City will not be allowed to talk to Santa Cruz. The player will be told he has a good contract and he will be required to honour it. Blackburn do not need to sell any more players. What would be the point of being relegated with 20m in the bank? If they hope to finish in the top half of the table next season, they would be crazy to sell their best goal scorer. A lot of Blackburn fans will be very very annoyed with their chairman and manager if they do not stand firm against this, even though the "8m" was actually a miss-print of 18m.

Doesn't matter who have up front unless we CREATE. Time and again our lone strikers had to drop deep as our wimpy midfield caved in. Best holding generals we have had in recent years are Hamman, Bosveld and MVF. I'd still consider brining in Patrick Viera. Imagine Taggart and co if we signed him up!!

I totally agree with you there Johnny. Our midfield gets bullied and has done for as far as I can remember. Viera would be immense, he's exactly what we need but beyond that its Richards for me, no midfielder would want to go through the middle of him.
