No Deal Struck With Tottenham Over Corluka

Manchester City defender Vedran Corluka is reportedly being groomed by Tottenham, however, City boss Mark Hughes has gone on record to say no approach has been made.

Sky Sports reported... understands Tottenham are closing in on a deal for Vedran Corluka...However, Sky Sport has learnt a deal could soon be struck as both clubs engage in discussions.

Meanwhile the Manchester Evening News reported Sparky as saying...

'There has been interest shown...There will always be speculation surrounding good players like him. He has had no contact with Spurs.'

Vital Manchester City says...

'Can the media, just for once stop this nonsense and read and understand the last paragraph.'

'Corluka or any Man City representative have had no reported contact with Spurs, so please stop the rumours and concentrate on someone else.'

Short rant over!

Corluka was not included in todays City team photo shoot. Strong indications are he's in London negotiating a deal with Spurs after City agreed a transfer fee. Rant all you want mate, the players going to Spurs and the £7mill will help keep City afloat.

what a great signing corluka will be for spurs. And if it were true, isn't it funny that hughes dont know anything about it, or is he just pretending? he must wish he stayed at blackburn.

City's hierarchy have still not ruled this out and that is of concern considering the lad's talent, experience and potential. Corluka deffo wasn't at the shoot, but at least One Danny Mills was!! All eyes on Eastlands. Again.

Off topic, but City are allowing kids in for a quid if booked in advance for next week's UEFA Qualifier. Fair play to The Blues for that:

One rumour in circulation is that the club needs to sell to ease the wage bill. That's the way Lids slide started. Too much speculation of course, but there's no smoke without fire when the damaging rumours are running at such a high extent. We need a club statement more than ever to ease our concerns, but as with Svengate, it isn't the Thai hierarchy's style. Wardle, Mackintosh, Sven etc. There is a lot of truth to come out.

Yeah, I second that, welshyido. Arkie & Johnny Baguette I'm not doubting your sources/information, but news at the Spurs end has dried up ... if indeed this is a genuine move in the making. The scattergun approach that the tabloids embark on make it hard to take anything seriously. For what it's worth, Mark Hughes is an honourable guy and if he says there's been no contact with Spurs - then I'd take him at face value. Hope the season goes well for you Blues.

Cheers welshyido and Schotty. Two pointers for you. MCFCTV.COM showed on line today the squad assembling for the annual photo. Corluka was nowhere to be seen. Blues across the web have freeze framed the footage and he's deffo not around. Secondly, one thing for sure tabloid wise, is that Das Daily Mail has always had an insider at Maine Road and Eastlands. The story goes it was always the now departed Dennis Tueart but still they get pretty accurate information. Today they are saying that Corluka's Spurs deal has stalled because "Corluka has not been able to agree an increase on his City wage of £45,000 a week." Sickening that another young footballer is taking the *****, even though he is clearly a talent. If this goes through and the rumoured fee is less than City paid, then it's a case of alarm bells at Eastlands as we need to sell to buy and yet another excellent addition for resurgent Spurs. I think you will go places this season!

Saturday's Sun: MANCHESTER CITY have given the green light for Vedran Corluka to complete a dream move to Tottenham. And new City manager Mark Hughes will use the £8million fee for the defender to buy a badly-needed striker. Croatian international Corluka, 24, has already passed a medical at White Hart Lane and cannot wait to join his good friend Luka Modric in London. A City source said: “This deal is great news for everyone. “Vedran’s a good player but it means the manager can use the money to bring in a forward. "Everyone’s a winner. Vedran is desperate to team up with Modric. "He was popular here but this is good business.” City signed Corluka from Dynamo Zagreb — where he was a team-mate of Modric — in August last year and he made 41 appearances for City.

Its all about money, If his dream is to team up with modric, then the wages would be secondary, if Spurs are matching his wages, whats the problem. I don't think Hughesy will get this money. No news regarding Dr T. get the T shirt now in Thailand colours 'Frank is innocent'

Pokemon's on bail and Toxin's short term future destination should be dealt with in September with more to come, welshyido. If you want to know the story re Corluka, keep an eye out for today's City team v AC Milan. Many of us will get angry if it is confirmed that we need to sell to buy in England (all English fees have to be settled inside a month). To see us lose an excellent player that we have blooded in the PL for a rival would be shocking considezring what we have been promised.

To be fair as a spurs supporter i think the majority of stuff written on this is gash. The Sun writes that it is a dream move for him? If it was a dream move why did it when it first come out state that the Lad didn't want to leave. I think that he has been asked to move on and it is a testiment to your club that he wanted to stay as it is clear that he really liked it with you. Good luck on next season guys.

Cheers fellas. I'm afraid there's no way the team photo can be seen until the club release it. The exclusive 2 minutes of footage were played out on City's internet based TV channel where you have to be a subscriber. Corluka really is nowhere to be seen and we'll have a better idea at 1715GMT today what is going on because surely Bluesy won't play a bloke who is leaving against Milan. As for Lennon, I'd prefer City continue to use our brilliant Academy lads and really train the likes of Kelvin Etuhu in that role. Meanwhile, Modric is some signing, eh?

yeah johnny i'm really excited to see modric play, i hope he turns out to be as good for us as hes been for croatia, one thing that does worry me tho is if he plays a blinder this season and we dont make the top4 then he will be off.(Thats what really concerns me) but we'll see how things go. Who would you say was your best signing last year petrov, elano or corluka? I must say i liked petrov the best, we really missed the out on him.

Charlie Corluka has been a class act welshyido, and is easily our most technically accomplished player (so have him for less than we are still paying!). Rigsby Petrov has been dynamite pre season and is getting stronger following a solid season under Sven. Petulant sometimes and a wimp in the tackle which we expect Hughes to address. Elano is a superb player but was sussed, sat on and roughed up in the PL after running almost the first half of our season for us. Modric shoudl expect similar, that's for sure. The story is Elano is stronger now and could play The Rossoneri today. So on points won last season, I'd say Petrov has been the best creative signing made. I still maintain that Bojinov will be a raging bull for us. He was nobody's mug, Svennis.

I should add that Fernandes has been growing in stature and maturity in the engine room. As for the other Sven signings, I now rate Bianchi, Garrido and Castillo as relative failures. The jury remains out on Benjani and Caicedo. Thank God for the MCFC Academy!!

i bet your over the moon that dunne signed a new deal, because him and richards together at CB were absolutely awesome. Are you one who see's micah's best position as a CB or a RB? by the way i thought gelson had something about him when i saw him play, he has bundles of energy. I cant believe i'm talking footy with a city fan,i'm still recovering from when we were 3-0 up in the FA cup and ended up losing against 10 men! but i guess the carling cup quarter win last year against your 10 men city has made up for that.

Ahh! 4-3 against Spurs! That brings back a happy memory! Gotta say though pal you've had the better of us in recent years. For me, Richards has to play through the middle purely for his energy, but we have lots of defensive options even if Corluka does leave. We're the exact opposite of you guys - rock solid at the back but cant score for toffee. You score for fun but are trying to tighten up at the back. Should be an interesting season for us both!

yeah ollie mate i have to agree there, we would kill for micah or dunnie, they are imo the best CB pairing in the EPL. but i wouldn't want to get rid of any of our attacking players which imo are some of the best in the EPL. But if we can keep woodgate and king fit then we have an outstanding CB pairing, but thats a big if. what are your expectations this year?

The Rag Mirror now says Hughes is calling for "Crisis Talks" at City. Something has to give. Again. "MARK HUGHES wants crisis talks with the Manchester City owner - as Vedran Corluka is on the verge of being sold to Tottenham for a knockdown £5million. Hughes is trying to get an answer from his bosses after discovering that the deal has been set up and Croatian international Corluka is set to sign for Spurs over the weekend. The right-back - signed for £9million a year ago - is being sacrificed as City try to raise cash as owner Thaksin Shinawatra has run into financial problems in his home country Thailand. However the way the sale is being pushed through has stunned Hughes who is demanding answers."
