Wright-Phillips Fate Known Later Today

Supporters of Chelsea's right-winger and ex Manchester City fans favourite Shaun Wright-Phillips will know later today whether he is to leave Stamford Bridge.

The player did not feature in Luiz Felipe Scolari's squad to face Wigan on Sunday, prompting rumours on various internet message boards into overdrive.

Everton are believed to be in poll position to sign the 26-year-old, however at the time of writing no deal is believed to have been struck.

SWP completed his £21million Chelsea move on 17 July 2005.

Don't think so, he may be too embarrassed to come back and ill advised by his friends. 'arry wants him down at Pompey, but the worry is that he is not getting games and thats what he thrives on.At Chelsea always been the fall guy for everything that goes wrong, he is the first to be dropped. I was glad of the money, but not worth anymore than £7 or £8m tops.

If we want to get more bums on seats then he'd be the right guy to do it. I know most city fans would be thrilled to have him back.

Why the very negative comments! Why can't you see him being released? Phil Scolari has already hinted on the Sky Sports website that he's happy and looking to release him. What’s wrong with coming to City?

SWP's move to Chelsea has been nothing other than a career move disaster. Both he and his advisers went after the money, the status and teh sale satisfied a desperate City board. It backfired in stunning fashion and should be an object lesson to any aspiring young England International. Go to Chelsea to be benched regularly and your level of performance will drop. He must have known that when he signed for them having seen what had gone before. On this evidence, SWP will ask to speak to the highest payer. But if Hughes moves for him and he chooses to return to City, it would show that it is not merely money which motivates him. Sure, I'd like to see him play reularly again at Eastlands, but I think that like Johnson, Sidwell and Cole, his chastening Stamford Bridge experience has stifled his hunger and ruined him as an international.

I don't think it's a stretch to see him leaving Chelsea. He's always been a top professional and a nice guy but unfortunately, doesn't suit Chelsea. I think if the boy has any sense, he'll try to arrange a move back to City; he's still loved by the fans and can make a big impression in the PL and maybe impress Capello.

SWP does not want to return, he likes the bright lights of London. If Pompey come in for him, he can still live there but not if he has to come north.

Especially for thriller this mrning from Dan Taylor in The Guardian: "Manchester City have made an official bid in the region of £10m to bring Shaun Wright-Phillips back from Chelsea. The winger has become Mark Hughes' top priority for the final week of a transfer window in which City, for all their financial issues, could conceivably finish as the highest spenders in the Premier League."
