Hughes Bids For SWP

The fellas at Guardian Football have it on good authority that City have made an official bid to Chelsea for the right sided services of Shaun Wright-Phillips.

The tabled bid is reported as £10 Million and Chelski are said to be ready to take the loss on board in order to fund other transfers this week.

So the spotlight is on SWP. He has to make a decision sharpish. Top wages and a bench in London where he is happy to live or top wages and a regular start at Eastlands in front of an adoring public who will be prepared to forgive and forget. However, we can be sure that no move will be allowed to take place without his adviser's blessing.

Now if Thaksin's City hierarchy can pull this one off, it would prove something of a PR masterstroke with the Blues faithful.

This looks likely to be a busy week for Eastlands' revolving door.

There appears to be another bid for SWP, looks like Everton, but if its not about money then surely he would pick City in a heartbeat.

can't say I'll be sad to see him go. I'm positive though he would be a great addition to your squad.

Everton can't afford him, plus they are not as big as City i'm sorry!

Think there is truth in the bid, but the hard part seems to be convincing him to leave (if the bid is accepted of course!). Hopefully he'll see sense.

He has no choice... Either stay, never get a game and people will forget who he is or come to the up and coming City with great ambition, A manager we can trust, fans will cheer him on, finally he will be able to play regularly!

Would have wanted him to sign before 12 today to get him in the team for tomorrow, but perhaps that is asking too much. The lads should be on their way, which means that MH will be with them and cannot speak to SWP face to face to try and get him to sign for us.

Well even his dad will recommend he leaves Chelsea so it’s a win/win situation. Ian Wright is disapointed with them not playing him.

Yes But you can be a lot more persuasive face to face, I would not like him going to see Moyes, I think he has that come and play for me manner, so He should stay in London till MH gets back Friday.

One bloke needs consideration in all of this and it's Stephen Ireland who has publicly stated he has never wanted to leave Manchester City or play for anyone else. Fair play to the lad for that.

Well i'm not suggesting selling Ireland, we still have room for him in midfield with Shaun. I know for a fact MH is still in Manchester today, him and the team will probably be going over to Denmark tomorrow!

We'll have to wait and see if the bid gets accepted first! Even then, he MAY be happy sat on the bench earning £60k pw. On the plus side, the Bellamy story was rubbish!!

city 81 - Thiago Neves is a very very good player. He won the Bola da Ouro in Brazil which is the award for the best player in the Brazilian leagues - a very prestigious award and has been excellent for Fluminense as a regular goal scorer and provider of flair. Had hoped that Chelsea would go for him to be honest but it doesn't seem too likely.

Thanks Zola, I think Chelsea need a striker not medfield player .

I know you're right mate -- but I'd like to see them look at finding young players a little more often. Neves is actually at his best in a free role on the left. Not sure where he played in the Olympics because I didn't see the games. As a winger, he's great at cutting in and scoring. As a midfielder he excels at short passing. Think he could be the next big name from Brazil - if you get him, it'll be great for you!

Wright-Phillips Agent on City or Everton: "He doesn't want to join either of them and we are now discussing the next move to see what we do. Because of all the problems there [City] and the uncertainty surrounding the place he is unsure."

I was just saying in the forum JB, that he has nothing to lose by coming here. He will get a game here or a game in the reserves at Chelsea. I mean if we go broke, there will be plenty of good clubs who will buy him, I don't see his problem. Maybe he thinks he cannot reproduce his form that made the England manager pick him.when he was here.

Maybe its just more paper crap? I reckon that the agent has not even said that, its just more rubbish to throw in the fire... Because it’s gone all quiet and they want to sell more papers!
