Vital City Zen: Welcome to Planet Blue

Vital City Zen: Welcome to Planet Blue

The 1st of September 2008 will live long in the memory of Blues worldwide. Anil Bhoyrul's breaking news from that the Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment had bought City started an earthquake that will absolutely change Manchester City as we know it and in time, European football.

As the week has gone on, we have seen Premier League chairmen such as Bill Kenwright of Everton holding their hands up and calling for foreign investment. Mad Kev at The Barcodes and Curbs at the Hammers have clashed with their boards over lack of funding and this looks to be only the beginning as Manchester has become the epicentre of world football's focus.

City are quintessentially the richest club on the planet following Thaksin Shinawatra's shrewd and admirably secret sale of the club. As his country all but implodes and his own future grows more uncertain, he clearly decided that enough was enough and to his credit, called in his business contacts and resources to offload the Blues. That it was to an organisation based in the seat of world oil is almost too much for any former old Kippax season ticket holder to comprehend.

Forcing Taggart and the rags to pay well over the odds for the soon to be 28 yrs old Dimitar Berbatov, then signing the brilliantly talented Robinho from Real Madrid was a stunning show of financial muscle.

The Vital MC team were looking forward to this international break as a chance to take stock of where we are at! Ordinarily, after three wins on the bounce you want to keep playing but this break is now perfectly timed for everyone associated with City to start to let this all sink in!

The ADUG's front man Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim has been firing out football world shattering quotes left right and centre and having given his backing to Mark Hughes and his management team is promising astronomical funds to bring 'galactico' superstars to 'MiddleEastlands.' Again another cause for grinning in disbelief.

Much as it is thrilling to think of City realistically challenging The Big Four, and the rags struggling to come to terms with what`s happening at "liddle ciddy," it`s vitally important that the club maintains it`s contacts with the MCFC Academy, it`s scouting network, it`s feeder clubs and it`s links with the local community.

Since City came into some money, Sven- Goran Eriksson started the ball rolling by blending a backbone of Academy graduates with mainly youthful international stars. Mark Hughes has continued that trend, including the sensational capture of Robinho.

I am not alone in my concern that January and next summer could realise an almost total team replacement if some of the quotes attributed to Dr. Al Fahim are correct.

Were that to prove to be the case, then as far as I am concerned that would be like the club losing it`s soul. City`s Academy has been the saviour of our club time and again and were assurances to be given underlining it`s continued importance, then not only would our club benefit in proudly blooding our own international superstars but Britain and Ireland`s national sides would benefit as well.

I can assure all Vital MCers that we have made representations to the club to this effect this week and they have reached the decision makers.

It's worth considering that last season City`s homegrown youth team beat Chelsea`s to win the FA Youth Cup for the first time since 1986. Not one of Chelsea`s players in that final was born in England.

"City The New Chelsea? No, It`s Much Worse Than That"

- Republik of Mancunia, rags website.

'It'll be nice to know that every gallon of petrol a Manchester United fan buys is going into our transfer kitty.'

- Noel Gallagher

'He has great flair, and something that would be nice to bring into our team. We have flair players already but he is another option and he could light up the league."

- Frank Lampard on Robinho

"The fact that we have been able to get Robinho has made everyone in the squad happy. What it does is raise expectations and the players will raise their game. From my point of view it is fantastic, we have a group of players that were working hard and going in the right direction, even before Monday. We have a really focused group that will kick on, I`m sure of that."

- Mark Hughes

'Just two years ago this club was looking at a very different type of player. Now, nothing is going to stop us."

- Garry Cook

'We are going to be the biggest club in the world, bigger than both Real Madrid and Manchester United.'

- Dr. Sulaiman Al Fahim

It seems like an eternity ago that Shaun Wright-Phillips brilliantly Kung Fu kicked his second goal at Sunderland to seal the 3-0 victory in a superb team performance. The will to win and enterprise that deserted the team towards the end of last season has returned and there is no doubt that SWP`s return has given everybody at the club a shot in the arm. The signs are that the young squad Bluesy is steadily building could see us comfortably placed on a number of fronts by the time the January Sales start.

Ryan Giggs says that City will never be as big as United. It will take time Mr Giggs granted, but if it does not bother you why mention it at all? Me thinks he doth protest too much!!

Giggs should retire, he's too old now to play! We was bigger than United in the 1930's for a long time and we back again now, so sod off Ryan, you had your chance in Citys reserves but wasn't up to our standards so you went to Man U, so F, U!

I have never known so many quotes come from Rag players in so such a short a space of time...We must really have them worried...

Spot on lads. Rags are in total panic. Can't believe how rattled they are!!!

I forgot to add that I spoke to a Lebanese mate of mine who has worked in Abu Dhabi. She was saying that the family who now own City essentially own the Cote D'Azur in France. At the outset, she asked me in all seriousness "Are they buying the city of Manchester?" - I said "No, Manchester City Football Club." She replied "I know that. They would usually buy the entire city."

Yes the Rags are definately panicking. It's was great to see Taggart pacing up and down the corridors of the Swamp at 2330 on Monday night. Wouldn't he normally leave his henchmen to conduct the deals? Even Tevez has come out today and says he now considers City as title challengers. Hughes has done the right thing today though and calmed expectations for January. A couple of signings to support an already impressive squad would be ideal, but any potential big moves are likely to take place in the summer I would have thought.

I was watching Setanta Sports up until midnight hoping that we would pinch Berbatov under the noses of the rags. I was accepting defeat then the Robinho message flashed up. I was STUNNED. It's a whole new ball-game for City now. I hope they stick with Hughes though - long term and more importantly the City youngsters. One of the best things about our new found situation is the 'cocky' rags and scousers. They are brickin' it!

Hi city 81 My nephew who is in Kuwait has also caught the bug he asked me to get him a season ticket. The City switchboard is also still inundated with calls. Been trying all morning to get through and at long last managed it to purchase a season ticket for my nephew. He is going to make the effort to come over and see as many games as possible...That's true support isn't it..He sponsors the clothes worn by our Arab Dr. on his Appretice show in Abu Dhabi,
