Thainks Frank - You Did It Your Way

For all the euphoria of the last week or so let us not forget the gratitude we owe to Dr Thaksin Shinawatra, who in just over twelve months has transformed our club from being Premier League no-hopers, to the most talked about club on the Planet.

Although there are certain media sceptics who think the acquisition by the Abu Dhabi United Group from the good Doctor is a plaything, and that it will all end in tears should realize that these people are serious long term investors whose main aim is to promote Abu Dhabi worldwide. And what better way is there than investing into the Premier League and the worldwide audience and publicity it attracts.

Other purchases they have made over the last few years include Chrysler Building New York, QE2, Madame Tussauds, shares in Ferrari Racing, Hollywood Movies, General Electric, Citibank (the worlds biggest bank) and of course their Blue Chip Purchase MANCHESTER CITY FOOTBALL CLUB.

With this and their other worldwide investments they are in it for the long term, so much so, it wouldn't surprise me if they gave the owners of the council house an offer they couldn't refuse, and then turn it into the 60,000 capacity it was designed for.

No doubt this will be the beginning of oil rich countries looking at other English clubs to takeover. I wonder how long it will be before his highness Michel Platini will be looking to restrict the amount of ASSETS a club may have to go alongside his plan for debt ridden clubs.

I think the good Doctors original intention was to invite investment into the club whilst retaining overall control, obviously the offer from Abu Dhabi was too good to refuse, especially as events in Thailand was becoming something of an embarrassment to him and our club.

We have therefore to thank him for keeping his word in that it was his intention to see us in the Champions League in three years, with his shrewd decision to sell the whole club his dream might just happen in two.

Hope to see you Frank at the game on Saturday cheering on YOUR team and once again many Thainks for DOING IT YOUR WAY.

He's certainly made it an interesting 12 months. To think before that we were drifting into footballing obscurity under Pearce / Wardle. Thanks for the memories - we all had a good thai-me!
