Breaking News - Manchester City sign Brazilian superstar Ronaldo.

The following has been translated into English from the original Spanish print.

Quote...

Ronaldo (31) accepted the proposal from Manchester City and will play in the Premier League from next January.

The contract signed by the 'Phenomenon' will last for one season with the option to stay for a second.

Ronaldo is expected to earn more than his fellow countryman, Robinho.

Ronaldo with half a leg is more lethal than most premiership strikers when fully fit. Sparky also has a good record of keeping crocked players fit see Santa Cruz, Dunn, Bellamy and others at blackburn.

If its true, welcome aboard big man! You best stay off the burgers from now on though!

I think we can trust Hughes to play his best side. There will be opportunities for Ronaldo when he is fit. Also a 12-month contract isn't too bad. There is a higher-than-usual risk factor about this one, but it could turn out to be very shrewd business.
Sindbad
Hughes is certainly shrewd Sinbad! A fully fit and firing Ronaldo would cost £30m+ in today's market. Time will tell!
oliverblue
Well someone had to sign him, gonna be one of those players either a great signing or a poor one. Either way it is another signal of intent of Man City.
young_jonah
Pile of *****e. The guy is totally finished. Why would you go near him with all your mega-zillions? Surely the likes of Gomez / Villa etc, your deadline day targets make more sense in the long run?
SirLes
Sirtes...It is very difficult to sign players in January especially if they are playing in the Champions League so this short term signing is a very shrewd move. If he flops so what, but then again he might just light up The Premiership like the crock Santa Cruz did..
alphieblues
Yeah put Santa Cruz is a lot younger than Ronlardo!
mcfcthriller
As long a Ronaldo's legs keep going he'll be a fantastic asset to the club. The Arabs want as much publicity as possible hence the signing. Ronaldo is just another step in their quest to take over the footballing world!
Tudor
10 years ago, I watched Gareth Taylor playing up front for City. I'll take on Ronlardo.
Johnny Baguette
He will probably pay for himself in shirt sales.Otherwise an odd signing, I thought he had to prove his fitness first.
Buzz Lightyear
he's past it - it's a hoax!
merlin
You know, Merlin might be totally right here. There has been no confirmation from Manchester City at all. And the other sources -- a Spanish newspaper and tribalfootball -- aren't exactly Reuters. But the fact is that City is now a credible club for Ronaldo to go to. I'd venture a guess there isn't one City fan at liberty in the community who two years ago would have suggested Ronaldo would play for us. If he is coming here he will come with every reason to get fit. People who have achieved the accolade of the world's best footballer have a lot of pride in their skill and need to be taken seriously. Also, £7M is a massive amount of money -- but not so much to a man as rich as the Brazilian. Personally I don't think he would find it too hard to get offers over £5M from most sides in the top half of the Premiership.
Sindbad
lol..that must be a joke..he would have to sit on the bench anyway..jo and robinho are way better than him..
chelsey
I agree Chelsey, we have had too many players taking City for a ride and not doing the business,I hope that Mark Hughes has this in control, but it may be paper talk,I cannot see MH playing him if he does not merit a place in the side and there are more noises coming from abroad than from this country. If he is to come in January then he has a few months with Flamingo to prove he is worth a contract esepcially on the money that is being quoted.
Buzz Lightyear
The deal is off according to City. By all accounts the medical team checked out his knee problems and advised Sparky not to buy him.
Tudor
Indeed. The spokesperson said: "We had shown a past interest in bringing the player to the football club in the right circumstances and spoke to him and his representatives. However, we have chosen not to pursue the matter." I think we'd best ditch that latest poll!!
Johnny Baguette
New poll added, but still on the ssme theme.
Tudor
Got to trust Sparky on this one! It looks like another example of the Manager calling the shots, which is a good sign to me!
oliverblue
Yes it looks like the signing was a hoax after all. But City did consider him seriously. By the accounts I have seen the approach was not from Hughes or our new owners ADUG -- but rather from representatives of Dr Thaksin. If that's the case the discussions were probably quite a while ago and a journalist has just warmed up the old loaf in a microwave and served it up again as if fresh.
Sindbad
It would be great to see Ronaldo ply his trade in the Premiership.
