Should Capello Select SWP?

England boss Fabio Capello names his England squad this Saturday for the Three Lions World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan on October 11, but will he select Shaun Wright Phillips in his 22-man squad?

According to Manchester City boss Mark Hughes the overwhelming answer is, yes.

"I would be surprised if Shaun isn't in the England squad because he has been outstanding since he came back to the club."

"If he is not in this squad then he absolutely will be in the next one in the New Year when he has had 20-odd games under his belt."

Hughes added...

"Shaun is great in the dressing room. It has been easy for him to settle right back in even though there is a different management team. This is his club and he is comfortable here."

"The benefit from playing with a smile on his face and playing regularly is there for everyone to see."

Shaun Wright Phillips is one of the most skilful and quick players that are eligible to play for England. His selection is a must. I feel England missed him when he was not being selected at Chelsea - what a waste!

Are Bentley, Beckham, Lennon, etc playing better than SWP at the minute? I think not! But then again, Capello thinks Wes Brown is better than Micah Richards, so he probably wont get the nod!

I see Micah was named in today's England U21 squad.

The jury is still out on Capello. I don't see decisive leadership from him. Yes, SWP should be back in international contention, but I don't see Capello making a move until he is forced to. He's too much like Sven for me... he'll be controlled by the big 4 managers and pander to their players.

SWP should never have been out of the England squad......now he's back at City, and playing better than ever......Capello will have no excuses if he leaves him out and England dont perform !

Thats a good point OB. He is a far better player now than when he left us, his crossing has improved greatly and his awareness of players around him is brilliant to watch. Perhaps Capello needs a bit more convincing, but he is the best right midfield we have in Britain at the moment. Playing regular football for City will surely get him into the England squad.
