'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Garrido Wants To Cement His First Team Status.

Javier Garrido has spoken about his desire to stay at City and Fight for that crucial left back spot in which I believe is a very weak area for the Blues.

He Told Guillem Balague's official website:

'Players hear the names of others who may be coming in and of course you wonder about how it's going to affect you.

'But you just have to focus on taking your chances and playing well when you get in to the side.

'Be positive, don't worry about who is coming in and think this is a fantastic opportunity to play for a great club that is being and transformed and really going places.'

Its good to hear that he`s committed to the City cause, but I just cant help but think that he`s just too lightweight for the Premiership. He scored a great goal against Liverpool, and going forward he is very good, but its defensive qualities that I believe to be lacking some what. Will Garrido be the left-back that helps us win the league?

Another of City`s Left-backs, Glauber Berti produced a good display for the reserves last night. Reserve coach Glyn Hodges had only but praise for the Brazilian. He told the Official Man City website:

"Glauber did well, I had him alongside Ben Mee as two left-footed centre halves and they worked hard. He looks strong and competitive, he won a lot of headers, there may be a language problem but that`s probably because I talk too fast! He`s enjoying it, and this is a good place to be at the moment."

Is he another option to fill Garrido`s? Who would you like to see as City`s left-back? In my opinion unless Garrido can prove me wrong and I hope he does, Man City could be in the market for a Left-back come January.

Garrido is a good squad player who has been exposed numerous times when he has to defend. he is more comfortable going forward. I'm not sure he even knows what man-marking is. We should recruit a new left-sided fullback in January. My suggestions would be Taiwo of Marseille, Chiellini of Juventus, Abidal of Barcelona or Marcell Jansen of Hamburg. Jansen is much better going forward than Garrido, and is a young German international worth investing time and money in. Chiellini is much better than Ball or Garrido -- going forward or staying back. Abidal is world class -- and already linked to Liverpool. Taiwo would be my first choice, and is reportedly available. But what about Berti?

Great to hear him be positive, but I fear he will be part of the cull eventually (after Ball). He has improved this season though to be fair!

Would like to see Berti given a chance in the next two or three games

I cant see us actually selling Garrido,we have all noticed that he has acutally upped his game and although it has not reached the standard we think is required, he is still young and as Sindbad says, he is a useful squad player and can play in serveral positions down the left. We have to discount players that are in the CL and we dont want to buy stop gap players until the ones we really want become available, we only want to sign players that are better than those here already. Bridge I think is attainable and the attraction for him is a regular place and with that a chance to oust Cole for England in that postion. At the moment by not playing regular football it affects your performance, ask SWP. Berti, I would like to see him in the City Defence, move Richards to RB and Dunney to right CB and Berti left footed CB.

I am wondering why MH has not tried Bertie in the first team yet........just seems strange......

Berti hasnt gotten a game as yet, very strange, more so given the weakness at the back. Maybe he has an injury or something.
