Shaun Wright Phillips In Two Fingered Shocker

Google language translator

Russell Brand? Jonathan Woss? Joe 'Kinnell? Next in line for purgatory is our very own SWP, now staring down the barrel of an FA inquiry. Good grief...

Nevermind Stephen Ireland's Superman underpants and Joey Barton's Everton bumcheek smile for City, Shaun Wright-Phillips could be about to be charged with bringing the game into disrepute.

It transpires that during City's defeat at Middlesbrough, the Teeside gaffer Gareth Southgate got all hysterical at SWP and accused him of diving. SWP responded by waving two fingers in Southgate's general direction.

Subsequently, we can expect Sports hacks at 'The Street of Shame*' to be working themselves up into a frenzy as the campaign to bring nasty Shaun to justice begins.

Already, Das Daily Mail are shrieking today 'Man City's Wright-Phillips could face FA wrath for V-sign at Boro boss Southgate' and The Daily Torygraph have thundered 'Manchester City`s Shaun Wright-Phillips may face action over gesture to Gareth Southgate.'

Southgate has tried to diffuse the witch hunt by saying: 'I didn`t think he was fouled and he didn`t like what I said to him but I saw him in the tunnel and he was fine. We were both in the wrong and it`s finished.'

Bluesy revealed 'I was too busy shouting at the ref. If Shaun did do something I will speak to him.'

This is all we need. City's stretched young squad are right in amongst an intensive phase of games which will shape our season. For Shaun Wright-Phillips to end up on skid row in some road side motel or worse still, suspended as a result of his heinous crime doesn't bear thinking about.

Makes me long for the days when we taunted Vinnie Jones and his like from the Kippax and got plenty back in return...

File under 'You couldn't make it up' and '
We're all going to hell in a handcart.'

Southgate deserves two fingers up at him, accusing SWP of diving when he obvisusly didn't by watching the game after, don't blame SWP one bit! Also he talks about diving, well its funny that the penuity they got was very soft touch, when one of their players went down outside the box... Now wtell me who was diving Gareth Mouthgate?

LOL, thriller. I think Southgate realises what a bellend he's been. Standby for the TV evidence to get rolled out. What is happening to our game. How much more sanitised can it get??!!!

Well said Thriller. And even Southgate has said they were "both at fault." It would be ridiculous for the FA to make a big deal out of this. Especially with SWP. I think his overall record is exemplary and completely professional. Players swear all the time and nothing is done. I'm not sure why Mouthgate (like the name) was calling SWP anyway. Personally I don't think managers should be allowed to intervene directly with the other team's players in this way -- unless they want to get the strip on and play themselves... SWP was reacting to unreasonable behaviour by the manager.

FFS stop crying . . just coz you live in the red shadow you have HUGE chips on your shoulders, whoopee doo SWP and Gareth Southgate had an argument, he shouldnt dive then should he. . . obviously learned more from drogba and co at chelsea than we gave him credit for. . these arguments happen week in week out where passion for the game is involved. . . And Southgate to his credit said it had been settled and forgotten, so why are you all dogging him. . . the more fuss that is made, the more the FA are gonna dig. . let it go, move on, and tell SWP that simulation is best left at home on the Playstation. . .

Point utterly missed smoggie. This episode is yet another example of the sanitisation of the game led by the dreadful national press. Believe me, the hacks will be making plenty more fuss yet. Gone are the days of the Hunter versus Lee on field scraps. Finally, that red shadow comment. Every trip I made to Boro, "united" was chanted by the home fans. Disturbing.

Actually Johnny, I didnt see the incident, I was just bitching for the sake of it about diving. . guilty as charged. . I was basically agreeing with you that "what happens on the night stays on the night" or it should do. . In the height of passion and with adrenaline flowing people argue, I dont hold anything against SWP or Southgate . . . As far as I am concerned they were just showing how much they care. . they spoke afterwards, and for me thats where it should end. . The only thing is that crowd unrest and pitch encroachment has slowly been creeping back into the Prem, and with the Barton and Rooney incidents of late, all I can think of is that maybe 2 fingered gestures at opposition managers are ill advised. . I wouldve given more cred to your comment if you had left out the "bellend" jibe, but I spose that makes us even

Fair play to you smoggie. Southgate has been honest enough and unlike many managers before him in this league has held his hands up for being daft about it in the first place. SWP, to all intents and purposes is a model professional and certainly his name combined with diving just sounds wrong. He gets clattered every game. I share your concerns over the way things are going and when you see top players clearly swearing their heads off at surrounded refs on TV relentlessly for all to see, SWP's reaction to Southgate looks like small fish indeed. Here's hoping Fleet Street drop this one.
