UEFA Group A Build Up: Dunne Sidelined?

Google language translator

Dunne, who has been a terrific leader for City these past few years has had something of a shocker so far this season, to say the least.

The revelation courtesy of The Manchester Evening News that he has fluid on the knee following that abysmal defeat at Bolton may come as something of a blessing in disguise for Blues who reckon the big fella needs a couple of games out of the firing line in order to take a step back and get a breather.

He may well have thus far been symbolic of City's defensive failings this campaign but we must never forget the amount of times that he has almost single handedly repelled the opposition time and again for the City cause.

So if the skipper is out for the Dutchmen's visit, how should our back four line up?

Assuming Bluesy would give Micah Richards the armband, how do you think he will address the centre back situation in Dunne's absence?

Certainly, Nedum Onouha, Javier Garrido and Michael Ball will all be hoping that they can get back into the Welshman's plans.

The City squad for FC Twente:

Hart, Schmeichel, Zabaleta, Onuoha, Richards, Dunne, Ben Haim, Garrido, Ball, Wright-Phillips, Ireland, Kompany, Elano, Robinho, Jo, Benjani, Vassell, Fernandes, Hamann, Evans, Sturridge.

I reckon he could go with a tinkerless back four..Zabaleta RB, Richards CB, Onouha CB and Ball, LB. Any takers?

i agree, at least with Dunne out we don't need to worry about own goals!

Thats an awesome idea to be honest, just clicked, Richards & Onouha as centre backs, that could be our answer, they are both solid as tanks with pace! Zabaleta in RB..

Works for me! Cant do any worse!

I think Dunnie willl be one of our most important players this season. But he cannot be expected to be a defensive wall on his own. Dunnie will be back stronger than ever -- Just watch!

One thing that has narked me all season is the sight of Ben Haim/Richards/Dunne charging to the wing from central defence to clean up for the full backs. It's happening less so with Zab, but typifies the mess we are in defensively. Being brutally honest, if I was preparing a side to play City after Boro and Bolton I would say we are there for the taking as long as you get stuck into them.

Could be a blessing in disguise and just the break MH wants.

just curious... how many goals has he scored this season...

wish him a speedy recovery , he will be missed (hopefully not)

The lad has gone through the pain barrier many a time for City and I wouldn't bet on him not doing it again!
