UEFA Big Match Build Up: Bluesy's Options

City held a press conference in Schalke this afternoon ahead of training with the increasingly influential Vinny Kompany sat alongside Mark Hughes

Sparky in full flow

As we know, Bluesy and his management team are now considering their options with a squad now depleted by four noteable absentees in Gelson, Elano, Zabaleta and our talisman Robinho.

The big talking point in Dortmund Airport arrivals and the Gelsenkirchen bars this evening will be how will the gaffer approach the loss of Robinho and the right back berth vacated by hard man Zabaleta?

Jo is fit again and in contention for a start up front and there will be a good number of Blues calling for the inclusion of Onuoha in the City defence.

City (from): Hart, Richards, Dunne, Jo, Garrido, Wright-Phillips, Ireland, Kompany, Vassell, Hamann, Mwaruwari, Sturridge, Schmeichel, Onuoha, Evans, Ben-Haim.

Will the gaffer aim to keep a clean sheet and adopt a safety first policy or go for it targeting an away win that would all but secure qualification from the group stages?

No doubt that Kompany is growing in stature with every game Tom. His knowledge of German football is going to be crucial for this trip. Meanwhile, our squad's fragility and lack of strength in depth has been ruthlessly exposed almost over night. The more I look at it Hughes has a hell of a text to get our small squad through the 30 odd competitive games we'll have played by New Years Eve with success. Surely he'll adopt a cautious approach for this one.
