Manchester City Manager Mark Hughes is to launch a bid for West Ham`s centre-back Matthew Upson.

I would prefer Hughes to raid his former club and bring the lanky Samba to Eastlands. If you were Hughes, who would you bring in at Centre-Back?

samba s slow and cumbersome ...i remeber him getting absolutley bullied by adebayor. upson isn't an improvement on dunne either

On current Premiership form I would recommend Brede Hangeland at Fulham. He's helped turn the Cottagers into a really good side defensively. They've only conceded 12 goals this season, one goal more than top dogs Liverpool and thirteen goals less than Man City. if we're looking for an internationally-recognised defensive leader, however then the best could be Real Madrid's Christoph Metzelder. 47 caps for the German national side but the move to Spain hasn't suited him and he is a rumoured transfer target for Arsenal. On the other hand -- if we could get both...

Metzelder would be magnificent, as would alex. But im not sure upson provides anything better than we have. not long till all will be revealed, im looking forward to the transfer window more than christmas

Fulham get another clean sheet and City are in the relegation places. Excellent win based on defensive solidity and great midfielders like Bullard. Hughesy, make Brede Hangeland an offer he can't refuse!
