Hughes Wants To Push City Up With Matthew

Hughes Wants To Push City Up With Matthew

Manchester City Manager Mark Hughes is to launch a bid for West Ham`s centre-back Matthew Upson.

Mark Hughes hopes to take full advantage of West Ham`s financial state before they manage to change owners. Manchester City are prepared to offer 8 million pounds for the defender and match or beat his current salary of £75,000 a week.

Is Mark Hughes looking to build a team capable of finishing in the top 6 or one that can challenge at the top. In my opinion Upson is not much better than the first choice Centre-Backs we already have. I would however be pleased to see him come to club because he is certainly better than Tal Ben-Haim and would provide that extra cover.

I would prefer Hughes to raid his former club and bring the lanky Samba to Eastlands. If you were Hughes, who would you bring in at Centre-Back?

On current Premiership form I would recommend Brede Hangeland at Fulham. He's helped turn the Cottagers into a really good side defensively. They've only conceded 12 goals this season, one goal more than top dogs Liverpool and thirteen goals less than Man City. if we're looking for an internationally-recognised defensive leader, however then the best could be Real Madrid's Christoph Metzelder. 47 caps for the German national side but the move to Spain hasn't suited him and he is a rumoured transfer target for Arsenal. On the other hand -- if we could get both...

Fulham get another clean sheet and City are in the relegation places. Excellent win based on defensive solidity and great midfielders like Bullard. Hughesy, make Brede Hangeland an offer he can't refuse!
