Mark Hughes Talks Transfers

Mark Hughes Talks Transfers

Google language translator

Mark Hughes has told Sky Sports News, that he wants to bring in many faces by this time next week. Encouraging words from the man who is normally, very good at finding the right players in January.

He told Sky Sports:

'Ideally we will do something as quickly as we can,'

'Things are moving so hopefully something will happen sooner rather than later"

'We are getting positive indications on a number of targets, but how soon they will be completed is anyone's guess'.

'We are hopeful that maybe by this time next week we will have new players at the club.'

'We have got a number of targets that we think can improve the squad".

'It is not easy to do business in January, but we will try our best to get players here.'

Mark Hughes then went on to underline the fact that City won`t spend over the odds to get anyone, and will only sign the players on what they think he`s worth.

'We have placed market values on the players and we will not go way above what we think the players are worth,'

Any guesses as to who could be in by this time next week. Personally I think it will be Bridge, Santa Cruz, Parker and Bellamy?

Bridgey? 15 million, nothing less. Wayne is content at our club. I would be very sorry to see him leave.

I am sure he would rather be playing regular football, than just the odd occasion outing, ie the domestic cups. Sparky says he is not expecting anyone this week, but is hopeful within a week, although he did state that he did not know how long these transfer talk could take.

Hughesy is holding the aces; it's not for him to rush the play. The more bets in the pot the better it is for him. The cash will get more important the longer he doesn't spend it. Like Redknapp said, clubs are hjolding out against him because they could get better offers from City. Hughes will go for the key "impact signings" he really wants, and quick. But squad building he'll bide his time and get bargains... Eat your heart out Redknapp!

I do hope the 15million is not correct. There are far better left backs out there that we could get for money like that or for far less if we want a young international. Zhirkov or Adriano of Sevilla are very impresssive and on quite a different level re: skill and speed to Bridge. I can't see either having a problem adapting as they are top quality. I am also hoping sicknote Santa Cruz is a smokescreen as didn't we bid for him prior to getting the Arab money and he wasn't interested. With the amount quoted for him I expect better than him and would prefer not to give Fat Sam a war chest. Especially considering where we are in the table to them. He is not as good a player as Podolski so I hope we pay 50% less and go for him. Ideally I would like us to be negotiating with Barcelona for Eto'o who with 18 months left on his deal and not wanting to consider a new one until summer has got to be worth a try. He is a winner and Barcelona always sell badly so I bet we could get him for well under 30million as they no doubt have their eyes on Aguero/Benzema and need the cash to get them in the summer. While we are there we could take a 10-15million punt for YaYa Toure as the emergance of homegrown Busquets has had him warming the bench. Argentina produces top qualty defensive midfield organisers so we could go for Cambiasso of Inter or the chap at Boca. I have always liked Stephen Appiah and don't know why, if fit, we did not sign him up on a free. Failing that, Toulelan of Lyon gets in the French national team ahead of Diarra but Lyon are hell to deal with at best of times. The two top players in Brazil are Hernanes (who is a box to box midfielder they say better than Kaka at that age) and Keirrison a young forward (Barcelona have had bids for both turned down last summer). It would be nice if we signed young qualty before their value goes stratospheric and loan them out to Spanish teams as sweeteners for other deals. Arsenal turning down Kolo Toure transfer request just delays him coming to us to nearer the end of the window as surely they cannot keep him now. I would hope we are going for Hangeland and Agger too as neither Dunne or Richards have done anything to justify their inclusion in the starting line up and prob need a rest to refocus. As for Parker and Bellamy, only Hughes knows why (if it is true) he is aiming for mid table journeymen with poor injury records with the budget he has avail, when he needs to save his neck in the best job he will ever get. Neither impresses me so I am glad West Ham turned down our ridiculous bid. Arshavin 20M or McGeady 8M to cover the injured Petrov is better use of that sort of money. I just hope his signings are true quality for the money and are finalised quickly. I wonder what Cook has been doing for the past 2 months if these deals are just being set up now when an infighting mess of a club like Real Madrid had their business concluded a week ago. This suspense is affecting the mental equilibrium of my family and friends with their moods swinging between nervous anticipation and giddy to hysterical excitement at the drop of a hat. How many days left, oh no 31! Happy New Year Everyone!

I have been watching SSN today and keeping an eye on the rumour mill. It seems Manchester City have been linked to every player that has a pulse.

City Girl- Cambiasso is a good shout, as is Podolski (my top choices). I would go for Taiwo at LB, but Adriano from Sevilla FC would also fit the bill. Central Midfield is our key position and has been our downfall since MJ was injured- I really hope we dont end up with Scott Parker or anyone less than AMAZING.

the deal with santa cruz is almost done, thats the noise coming from rovers, big sam has already stated thta cruz has asked to leave sooner rather than later, i strongly believe he has played his last game for blackburn and sturridge may come on loan as part of the deal
02/01/2009 05:15:00
Oh no glen9mullan that is not good news. I hope this is not true. He is not even fit to play so how can he pass a medical. I need a coffee to cry into and loaning out our best striker just adds to the utter insanity and lack of ambition of it all. £18M 5x the value for a 27 year old with one good season and a dreadful injury record makes no sense especially when he followed last year up with a paltry 3 goals this season just to prove he was a one season wonder with injury problems. I feel a long rant coming on but I need to drink coffee and do some work that I need a clear head for first. An overpriced Chelsea benchwarmer and this. Hopes and disappointments. Can we expect anything better from the incompetent, inept small time loser of a manager Hughes.

Bridge is signing it appears. It has only taken one day and I now fear Hughes will replace all my joy and hopes with disappointments like he has all season with his incompetent management of a top 6 squad. This destroyer of dreams has virtually ended our chances of what should have been at worst mid table obscurity finishing in a comfortable top 6 finish to a laughing stock in world football with our best squad for many years. There is not a manager in the league who has got less out of his squad than him and he has had £80M already. So why was I gullible enough to think he would buy anything other than a Chelsea benchwarmer for twice market value is beyond me. We could have bought a world class international first teamer and made a statement of intent to everyone with the same money. No doubt Chelsea will replace him with Zhirkov, Adriano or Taiwo (good shout eightsin) for no more than we paid them. Another Benjani/Defoe mugging. We have paid more for the happy benchwarmer Bridge than Chelsea paid Barcelona for Deco, so much for getting value for money. This dead beat, small club mentality manager even with all the money in the world is still looking at other clubs reject pile for our players or, possibly no one of any real quality wants to play for him with his limited CV and abysmal start at City. Does this mean we can expect Parker, Santa Cruz and Bellamy with other mid table high priced journeymen that will work with him. As opposed to anyone on a world class list for a not dissimilar price who could actually help us to top 4 next year. Yes, anyone who thinks Robinho or any other world class player will go more than 2 seasons without CL football is delusional like the hapless Hughes. We should have sacked this man weeks ago if he could not buy and bed in some of the real quality signings we need to make the step change next season that he is not aiming for. I am praying that this signing is not the shape of things to come and that Robinho and ADUG don't start losing interest. I am quite sure when Robinho was persuaded to come to City he was not told that the world class teammates we would be purchasing to complement him were called Bridge, Bellamy, Parker and 3 goal sicknote Santa Cruz. If these targets are anything but press scare mongering then he probably has cause to repudiate and walk out on the contract as we have obviously misrepresented ourselves as a club with ambition to be a one of the worlds great clubs. These players only demonstrate we are a graveyard for over priced top 4 rejects and failures bec, we have an inept manager with no history of winning a thing or managing stars. No world class player would have an ounce of faith in a man whose first five months have been such an unmitigated disaster of broken promises and the lowering of targets and expectations in line with his management limitations. Aha all is not lost, from the depths of despair there is hope. Valencia now say they would have to accept an exorbitant offer for David Villa and/or Silva as they have to put the financial stability of the club above sporting success. A truly world class forward and left winger for an exorbitant price. They are speaking our owners language, what is Cook waiting for? Go get Villa and Silva! Oh yes he has to ask Hughes' advice/permission. Sicknote Santa Cruz and Jermaine whiskey galore Pennant it is then.
