Samuel Eto'o Deal Gathers Pace

Today, Friday 2 January 2009 the Spanish site, Sport.es reports...

'...Manchester City has submitted a bid of 60 million euros to Barcelona for Samuel Eto'o. The player would receive 15 million euros per season...'

Please use the google translator at the top of this page to translate the link into English.

Samuel Eto'o

Our source has been tight lipped since we published the original story; however, this is the very latest.

'Eto'o representatives, Barcelona and City officials are thought to be at loggerheads reference his personal terms, plus, the 27-year-olds current contract is thought to be another major obstacle with a buyout clause being a major concern.'

'The Cameroonian international footballer is keen on playing in the English Premier League and Manchester City is believed to be high on his agenda, nevertheless Mark Hughes will not be held to ransom and will not pay an inflated price for anyone.'

'It is highly unlikely any deal will be made during the January transfer window, with the summer being more of a realistic target.'

Don't forget to keep coming back to Vital Manchester City for the very latest.

Eto'o? Wow, dream on! Barca will fleece you folks, given the type of form he's been in. And use that money to buy David Villa!

45 million pounds????? 8O???

27?? I thought he was older than that, he seems to have been around for donkeys. He would be a great signing though, african nations players do tend to travel well. Just think....Robinho and Eto'o in the same team! We'd be looking at 12th or even 11th in the table then!!
SouthCity
Please let this be true at any price!! Finally a top 4 player.
City Girl
The Daily Mail must have read this very article as they have now published the story.

Eto'o and Kaka been spotted getting off a bus at The Trafford Centre !!!

Eto'o would be a massive signing for us. We are already scoring for fun from midfield positions. If we add a goal machine like this guy to our formation we'll be capable of far more. Just think -- it already takes teams three men to mark Robinho! I'd be over the blue moon if Hughes and Cook can pull this one off.
Sindbad
C'mon now. Stop believing this sillyness. Eto'o won't come. Kaka wouldn't come if you gave him the deed to the club. Realistic targets are the bench players of top teams, and you will overpay for them.
RadioactiveD
RadioactiveD You wish! The reality of a world recession will hit all clubs bar us. We are not inferior to any club and never were. We just lacked cash due to years of bad buys and mismanagement. 2 days in and we are already being begged by Valencia to put bids in for players of the calibre of Villa and Silva lol. Be afraid be very afraid. The future is sky blue and it's about time.
City Girl
The table says you are inferior. I'm not having a go at anyone, it's just that top players want to play for trophies. Man City can't offer that experience yet, so you have to be realistic, form a building block of good bench players (like Bridge), and build a better team first. If you do it right, in a few years top players may be more willing to listen. Don't let the Robinho signing fool you. He was in a jam. The window was on the brink of shutting and Madrid were playing hardball with Chelsea. I guarantee you he wanted Chelsea, not because the club is intrinsically "better" but due to their competitiveness for top trophies. Give it time and show some patience. You won't get Eto'o or Kaka any time soon.
