Man City Will Bid For Santa Cruz & Scott Parker

Google language translator

Monday 5 January 2009 - Sky Sports News has announced that their sources have told them that Manchester City is on the verge of bidding for Roque Santa Cruz & Scott Parker.

Roque Santa Cruz

The Blackburn Rovers striker has been on top of Mark Hughes wanted list for sometime now, and at last, Manchester City are believed to be within 24 hours of placing a formal bid for the 27-year-old forward.

Scott Parker

West Ham United told Sky Sports earlier this morning that their midfielder, Scott Parker was not for sale, nevertheless, with their owner reportedly in the financial mire, an expected £11million bid for the Englishman would be reluctantly accepted by the Hammers board.

City fans can expect an official announcement within days.

I think Hughes is going about this in the wrong way. Fine you need additions and fast, but from what i've heard he's given up on a majority of the current side because of their laxed attitude. I'm sorry, but you just don't do that! That's total unprofessional not just on the players' part but on Sparky's part too. Signing players like Parker, who is good at best, on a 70,000 + a week contract stinks of panic to me. Not a good move at all, I would have taken him a few seasons ago in his Charlton days but for me he is far too casual, perhaps this move would reinvigorate his career, im not sure. Don't get me started on 12 million for Bridge! he's a very good left back but that's a lot of money to be paying in my opinion. In that case Joleon Lescott is worth atleast 17 million! I just hope you don't get held to ransom for Santa Cruz and Parker, but as they say you pay a premium in this market. I just hope your manager knows what he's doing because i can see the chop looming come summertime. He won't endear himself to the Arabs if he wastes their money.

How many has Santa Cruz scored this season? 5? I'm not sure hes worth it, we should spend 9.6m on Podolski, put him on the left and have Robinho up front alongside Jo as I think he would come into his own partnered with Robinho. I heard a rumour today that Wenger's going to use Toure in a player + cash deal to take Stephen Ireland. I hope not!

I can't see Ireland being someone Wenger would want! Good player but not foreign!

Santa cruz will flop at city, hes a true definition of a one season wonder. Analyse his goalscoring record throughout his career. Parker will make a impression, but he is no better than ireland or kompany. So whats the point getting him. If most fans are in agreement than hughes needs money (not his own mangerial skills) to change citys league form around. Isnt this prove that he isnt the right man for the job. Pulis, big sam, southgate etc aint relying on billions. Why I am only one seeing this. Its soooooooo frustrating!

Blimey, first Bridge now Parker! I seem to remember a similar spending spree not so many years ago... I'll spare you the time and skip to the results - Bridge is quality and good enough to stay in any team. Parker isn't.

Parker? why not Senna/Yaya Toure/Xabi Alonso/Defour/Witzel/Cambiasso.... for possibly less money or even Bullard and Hangeland for the same cash if he wants Premiership. We might as well go for continental top quality if 2nd rate premiership journeymen are going to cost us the same. Podolski half the price of one season wonder sicknote Santa Cruz is a no brainer surely?

123spurs Yaya Toure wanted out when Barcelona signed Keita at the beginning of the season and they have Busquets coming through this season too. Last game was one of his few starts. Have you had a bad day you seem a bit stressed you poor thing. I suppose it can't help having your own billionaire owner who seems to be happy to turn you into a feeder club for Utd.

City Girl. You asked why no top European players being tipped for City (you named a lot of them). I could be wrong but I think it comes down to the policy announced by Hughes and Cook that they would ppersonally handle the negotiations and would cut out agents. Hughes seems to have almost no ongoing contacts with the big European clubs and probably does not know hoe to sign the players you are nominating. Basically, he is an amateur agent and is now going to sign the dross of the UK instead of the cream of Europe. If he signs Santa Cruz, Bellamy and Parker he asking for it.

Sindbad I think you have hit the nail on the head with that. Probably explains why if we have had a list for months and have cash, we only have one in rather than the lot by day 2. They really are a bunch of amateurs aren't they. What is it to us to pay even 10M in agents fees if it gets us up to 6th and some respectability. The posters on here seem to know more about what is going on in the european game with players and values than they do.

Thank you johnny Baguette! I just find it unbelievable whats happening to my beloved city. The right solution is blatantly obvious. Yet no one has the courage. Other teams now twice as hard against city and throwing money around unwisely isnt the answer. We may not get cambiasso, yet - but we could get bullard or poulsen (juve)- not parker or bellamy. With ireland and swp unavailable for saturday, im really worried. Bellamy, parker and cruz are not the answer. 2008 has been a stinker for city :(

Its always midfielders and forwards you're linked with! Do you actually think your defense is any good?? Forest made it look ordinary, worse than a conference one! You think you can win anything with the best attackers but the worst defense!??

123spurs: One season without Champions League (next year) is no big deal when they are being financially compensated. AC Milan were not in it this year. Lets be honest most teams in it have no chance of winning it anyway. What I have seen of the UEFA Cup this season (despite City qualifying) it looks Mickey Mouse to me with a farcical amount of games which affects league form and very little financial benefit compared to CL in stringing it out so long. You might be right but I can't see it making any difference not being in it and is one less distraction to help us focus on a top 4 finish next season. Though if we bought international quality players (not kaka level) and we had a competent manager we could still make 6th this year.

ForeverUnited what can I say about the defense other than at 5'4" and 7 stone wearing 5" stilletoes I could turn and cover 10m of the pitch faster than Dunne and Richards this season. You are right I personally am not aware of any rumours about central defenders that have not come from here or other fan sites. We need a world class goalkeeper, Hart to be loaned out and 2 central defenders. We will not be winning anything with Hughes at the helm with the signings he proposes, so you can rejoice in that knowledge. For all of this pain now, I am sure City will be successful in the end. It is inevitable with our money. We just need not have written off an entire season and made a laughing stock by Jan if we had changed our manager at the time of the takeover or in Nov. For all the press sniping of City (which is the same press that backed Hughes up to this week) there isn't an ambitious manager in world football that wouldn't like the opportunity available at City to create history, with unlimited funds to back him, owners that do not interfere, a massive fanbase and a new stadia. I expect we will all be laughing come the summer (for diff reasons) and forget about this hell of a season (or City fans will try to) when Mourinho waltzes into City and starts a daily slanging match with Ferguson. Would his ego allow someone else to take on the City project, enhancing their reputation and earning 3x more than him in world football? After all, I am sure it hurt him to be told in Italy that he is not the special one and that his success at Chelsea was based on the team Ranieri built, that the Inter team is Mancinis winning team not his and, that the Porto CL win was a one season lucky fluke that you get in cup competitions. Taking the revolving door of Real Madrid bec Barcelona wouldn't touch him is not going to disprove those comments. The City job is made for him and his ego. All this about seeing out his contract is just to stop the speculation prior to CL game.

Great words city girl, your right about this season being written of. Its a shame because i fancied a decent cup run. When meet up against a experienced, well drilled european side in the uefa cup...i wont be optimistic about our chances. I just hope the mourinhos of this world would consider city if the worst does happenat the end of the season. Goal keeper, two central defenders, two central midfielers, two strikers are needed. Weiss should be given his debut against pompey now swp is injured.

City Girl - you should be working directly with the Man City board, what are doing wasting your time on here?? ;) But seriously calamity Dunne and Micah are going backwards. They were quite impressive last season and especially againt us! Wayne Bridge is a good first step but I actually thought Kompany was bought as a CB. Whats with this DM nonsense? You don't need to have a DM to concede less goals, you need ALL the midfielders to track back and help the defense anyway! You have enough goals in your attackers, and its quite evident what you can do to teams on your day. Jo is just simply worse than Manucho! How much did he cost? 19 mil?? CSKA must have been laughing all the way to the bank! Start building the team around IRELAND, NOT Robinho, but IRELAND! He's your best player, he makes everything tick and you need him more than Robinho contrary to popular belief!

24m bid made for Yaya Toure according to the Sun. His aquisition would go some way in sorting out our Central Midfield if we continue playing 4-5-1 or 4-3-3. It may also encourage Kolo to come to City. Here's hoping! With those 2 signed we would still need cover on the left/right wings and upfront. Podolski would be very welcome!

Podolski isnt good, despite a decent showing in the euros. In three season at bayern he has never been a regualar and he his now 4th choice, his 3rd place spot went to lando donovan...of LA galaxy. He shouldnt near city. Yaya wouldnt come to city, now he is 1st team regualar at barca. And why would he leave to fight relegation, instead of winning a possible treble at barca.
