City Team News Ahead Of Pompey Game

Google language translator

Manchester City's new signing Wayne Bridge is expected to make his debut at left-back against Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

Nedum Onuoha is thought to have recovered from a hamstring problem but doubts remain over Robinho (thigh) while midfielder Stephen Ireland is suspended.

Midfielder Shaun Wright-Phillips is out for two to three weeks with a hamstring strain sustained in last Saturday's 3-0 FA Cup third ropund defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Provisional squad: Hart, Zabaleta, Dunne, Richards, Bridge, Ball, Kompany, Elano, Robinho, Caicedo, Fernandes, Jo, Vassell, Garrido, Sturridge, Hamann, Clayton, Ben Haim, Schmeichel, Evans.

Does not fill me with a lot of confidence reading the available squad

Give Jo and Sturridge starts up front together, Hughesy. Our top scorers all look unlikely to start so these two with their young legs could be instructed to just keep finding space and stretching Pompey's defensive slouchers. The goals will come... Elano should be tasked to find the killer passes for the two strikers. With Robinho out (an assumption I know) this could be our best gameplan. We would have no wide players to rely on -- unless we ask Zabaleta and Bridge to go wing back whenever possible. But in Bridge's debut I think we shouldn't expect that from him. Let him get to work out his defensive fit with new teammates first. Fingers crossed. Come on City!
