Owen, Owen, Gone?

Google language translator

Yet another transfer twist begins to reveal itself. The Daily Express has stuck it's neck out with a report that Michael Owen will join City in the summer...

The hack concerned reckons that Owen has a 'gentlemen's agreement' (not often we associate gentlemanly conduct with Premier League transfer deals is it?) to pack in Newcastle United for Eastlands when his contract expires.

Newcastle fan's sites are already beginning to debate the alledged story and Vital Newcastle are quite rightly questioning that should the story be true, then surely The Barcodes would put the striker up for sale now rather than see him leave for nothing.

I agree and cannot understand why Mark Hughes is focusing on Craig Bellamy and Roque Santa Cruz as priority targets when surely the money would be better spent on a striker with a bit more about him to say the least.

Though something of a crock and having scored only 29 goals for The Magpies since joining them in 2005, Owen's professionalism has never been in question right up to this stage of his career.

We're not in a position to able to risk dithering at SportCity. If we are to pay out crazy money on England based players this month then let's spend it on the tried and trusted as opposed to the tried and familiar.

In any case, I am sure we can expect some clarification on this story this weekend from Newcastle's potty mouthed gaffer Joe 'Kinnell.

29 goals in three years would have been a good return for us in recent years.

Especially considering the injuries he's had!

I can't see it .. if he is coming then I am sure MH would have him here ASAP. Doesn't make sense waiting for summer
Doody
if he is coming here it ought to be now......by the summer I would have expected us to be aiming much higher than Owen.......

Totally agree with lincolnblue. He's a good buy for this season and if he does well then great but we'd stil have to buy someone else because he will never go a full season injury free.
