Do City Really Need Another Striker?

Google language translator

Bellamy, Jo, Caicedo, Benjani, Sturridge, Evans, Bojinov, Robinho, Vassell. Do we really need to add another to the long list of strikers Manchester City all ready have.

It is fair to say that Sturridge, Evans, Caicedo and Jo are all young but with the formation that Hughes insists of playing we surely have enough cover for that lone striker role?

Reports in the papers this morning suggest that Hughes is preparing bids for Reading`s Doyle, Robbie Keane and Chelsea`s Drogba. This in connection with Hughes`s intent to still bring Santa Cruz in is rather baffling to why Hughes is not trying to strengthen the defence but an attack that is the second top scorers in the premiership.

I still rate Jo, even if he has found out that if he`s not at his best he won`t play. Benjani and Bellamy are proven talent in the premiership and Sturridge is certainly one for the future. If Hughes insists of bringing Santa Cruz in then I fear that in two weeks time when Bojinov is in the frame for a first team return, Bellamy or Santa Cruz will have to cope with warming the bench.

Its difficult to keep every member of the squad happy but unless Hughes gets rid of the likes of Vassell and maybe send some of the young guys out on loan, then the harmony of the squad could suffer.

If you were Mark Hughes who would you send packing? Have your say on our busy forums or comment in the box at the bottom of this article.

Could be that the Santa Cruz flame has extinguished. We're clearly top heavy though and need to offload up front with Bojinov close to returning. Benjani to Pompey?

Doyle , Keane and Drogba are all names dreamed up by the media. There is no way we will sign any of these especially as there is still a bid lying on the table for RSC. Maybe two more players coming in a GK and another defender. If there is to be another striker then my money is on Villa.

City need a top 25 goal a season striker urgently. We can afford one! benjani is crap, jo has no confidence, sturridge blows hot and cold, caeicdo is inconsistent, bell-endamy is dumb signig ane we cant rely on bojinov. ADUG will be lookin to sign a big name forward after the kaka dissapointment before the window closes.

We don't need any more. IF we played with 2 up front we would have 4 lots and 1 spare! We could have 3 lots of 3! We could go back a lot of years and play a 2 - 3 - 5 formation (we should have done against Forest) and still have 4 sat on the bench. Lets offload a couple, Vassell and Benjani just to make sure they don't start a game.

Agree. Between now and the start of the next season offload Vassell, Benjani, Evans and Caicedo (loans), Bellamy and Jo (if they're not performing) and make one HUGE signing in the summer. Quality over quantity (up to a point-we do need some strength in depth). This is however dependent upon Bojinov playing two games in a row...(fingers x'd).

No we need to buy more defenders that is where our problems are. We could afford to get rid of some of the non producers like Jo, Vass and Evans. Summer is when I can see us buying a "star" striker as ADUG need the marketing value as well as the football ability of a big name.

I reckon we could see some "book balancing" this week. Vass, Caicedo and Benjani could all be up the road. Might even be some surprises.

Simple answer YES .You have rattled off the above names. Proven premiership talent?? Bellamy...causes ructions everywhere he goes. No-one would question Liverpool on much about football..they got rid ! West Ham , up to date this season 14 games 5 goals and oh yeah 5 bookings. To be fair did quite well at Blackburn 17 goals one season, Newcastle his start there was good but lets not forget he was alongside Shearer oh and 11 bookings. There again trouble at the club and off-field. The rest, Benjani proven ? Where??? I can't be bothered doing the stats you should have checked before writing the column ...but they are there, oh sod-it, 19 goals in 70 games with Pompey 4 in 19 at City ok 2 in europe against poor defences. Evans dropped down pecking order why ? Ask Hughes. Sturridge does blow hot /cold as mentioned.Caicedo not shown anything and I am sorry to say how much more time does Jo need.I do not want another Samaras !! Bojinov,.. Yes!! From the little I have seen of him at City and all the vids of him in Europe I am happily awaiting his return. I know it was a friendly against A.C.Milan but all the basics of football apply, touch control, speed of thought and finishing and he was really good, the ball stuck to him he caused A.C. probs , now I have saved this ...Vassel GET RID!! The same match as mentioned he was totally out of his depth I am sure he has Teflon boots he has a head like a sherrifs badge. Seriously I doubt whether he would stand out in the Championship. He is truly awful. He has never been a goal-scorer 22 in 4 seasons at City. Before anyone has a go I do not dislike him as a person I do not know him, he probably is a lovely bloke I am just being objective on the games I have witnessed.Effort will get you so far then the rest is ability /skill,that he does lack greatly. Robinho? Well second top goal scorer in England and has missed a few games and played with an injury. I think the question you should be asking is, "If we have that undoubted wealth of striking talent why are we not scoring as perhaps we should?" The possible answers are , tactics? Formation?Well that would be down to Hughes.Or quite simply, they are not good enough! So buy now and well. That is easier said than done. Do we see out the season with what we have and wait for the summer to geta "Superstar"? All I/we City fans have for info' is the media. Let's just accept that the names mentioned are valid targets, the one that is head and shoulders above the rest is David Villa . The irony is that as all City fans know we can go from the sublime to the ridiculous with out breaking stride I would half expect David Villa being played at City at centre-back :))
