UEFA have published City's latest UEFA Cup campaign squad list in advance of the Round of 32 first leg clash in Copenhagen on the 19th February and Nigel De Jong dips out...

It must have been a tough decision for Mark Hughes to omit The Dutch Enforcer but UEFA Cup rules dictate that a club can register a maximum of three new players in the winter transfer window.

Hughes and his backroom staff have settled upon Shay Given, Craig Bellamy and Wayne Bridge as the eligible new recruits.

Bridge, even though having already played in the Champions League with Chelski is allowed to play in the UEFA Cup under the unsurprisingly complicated guidelines.

At least the Vital MC Forums favourite Gelson Fernandes will be on hand to control midfield.

Someone might have dropped a clanger however as 'Everton's' Jô remains on the list at the expense of The Raging Bulgar Valeri Bojinov.

Maybe the gaffer might be after protecting the lad's injury, but Jo's inclusion remains a mystery. More daft UEFA rules? Something to do with the earlier squad list declaration? Could well be that the rules mean The Boj can't be added. Any UEFA knowledge whizzkids out there?

Under UEFA rules, NDJ could not have played for City in this seasons UEFA cuo having already played for Hamburg in it. Unlike Bridge who played in the Champions League for Chelsea. SUBSEQUENT REGISTRATION 17.17 For all matches from the start of the round of 32, a club may register a maximum of three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the current competition. Such registration must be completed by 1 February 2009 at the latest. This deadline cannot be extended. 17.18 One player from the above quota of three who has played UEFA club competition matches for another competing club in the current season may exceptionally be registered provided that the player has not been fielded: − in the same competition for another club, − for another club that is currently in the same competition. Furthermore, if the player’s new club is playing in the UEFA Cup, his former club must not have played in the UEFA Cup at any point in the current season. Clear everyone?

Jo will be included, in case all or forwards get injured and he has to be recalled from Everton....( god forbid )
