City Fans In Thailand Lose Interest

According to the Reuters news agency, Manchester City FC has closed down its operations in Thailand.

Since the club cut all of its ties with Thaksin Shinawatra interest in City have all but died.

Jimmy Heosontaty, City's former representative in Thailand, said plans for an academy had been scrapped and the club's merchandise shop, launched to great fanfare last year, had closed due to a lack of interest.

'We saw no point in carrying on after the (Shinawatra) family sold their share. City still have fans here, but there's not a lot of interest anymore.'

Thanks BM - listen City fans, there was a lot of intrest from the Thai's when Frank tookover and yes quite a lot of Thai's started to wear the sky blue of City but they were not bought from the City shop (that was a no brainer) they were all bought from the local market for about £6 - best copies you will ever see.

Asia will be VERY big in world football, not just in terms of audience and TV revenues. True talent will emerge into the world's favourite sport. Some great Korean, Chinese and Japanese players have carved out good Premiership careers already. I liked Sun Jihai a lot. Thaksin was I think ahead of his time but his ideas will prove sound. City should develop strong partnerships with football clubs all over the world who can produce good entrants to the Academy. It was a mistake to bring the three Thai internationals over with no opportunity to progress, but City should stick to the plan of creating a world brand. And Thaksin was a great ambassador for City in Asia. I have a lot of respect for the man and wish him the very best.
