Daniel Sturridge Stalls Over New Contract

Daniel Sturridge Stalls Over New Contract

Manchester City forward Daniel Sturridge says he wants to concentrate on his football rather than worry about his contract negotiations.

The 19-year-old's current deal with the club expires in the summer, and as yet he has not committed to a new contract.

Sturridge told Setanta Sports News...

'I'm just trying to get my head down - I've just got back from injury - and I'm trying to nail down a first-team place at Manchester City,'

'I`m not trying to worry about my contract or anything else except football, because all that kind of stuff can put you off your game.'

'I don't want other things on my mind when I'm playing football because it doesn't bode well for you on the pitch.'

Daniel finished off by saying...

'I just want to focus on my football, get my head down and try and score as many goals as I can before the end of the season.'

Mark Hughes rates the England Under-20 international and it is thought he is eager to offer him a contract he can't refuse.

All that stuff can put you off your game eh? How about signing a new deal then and putting it all behind you then mate? That should take a load off of your mind. Make him a final offer and then walk away. It's his career he's threatening.

He's been injured for weeks. He cant possibly not have the time to wrap this up. He is either holding out for another 20 grand a week in the style of Cashley Cole, or he is off. Either way its not impressive. Im with fifthcolumn. Make him an offer or tell him its over.

i cant seem to understand young sturridge's stance on his contract, never played full 90 minutes and always seems to injured. i think this guy should note what colour the grass is at city, as am sure it is not gonna be greener anywhere else. if he cant force his way into city side then how does he expect to get into say, chelsea or villa side filled with talent, old or new!! apparently demanding 50k in wages, i think he should get off his high horse, prove he is even worth another contract i.e loyalty! and the fact he got a better chance at breaking through into city side on a full time basis than any other team.
