City v Hamburg Ref Watch - Nicola Rizzoli

Italian referee Nicola Rizzoli takes charge of tonight's UEFA Cup quarter-final second leg match between Manchester City and Hamburg SV.

Profile

Rizzoli was born on 5th October 1971 in Bologna, Italy and speaks his native language only. When not refereeing, Rizzoli works as an architect.

Nicola Rizzoli

Career

Nicola Rizzoli is active in the Italian Serie A since 2002. In 2007, he received his FIFA badge and in August of that year he started with a Champions League qualifier and after only a year and a half he took charge of a CL group stage match.

Rizzoli is a Premier Development referee, but he will most probably move up to become an Elite ref in the near future.

Don't matter much who he is so long as he runs a fair and fast game.

Well it's half time and despite giving us a pen to even up the harsh one from the 1st leg I'm pretty sure this guy is a muppet.

I thought the ref did a good job, He had not alternative than to throw the brainless Dunne off the park, the attacker had lost the ball by the time Dunne tackled him and there was no danger. That simple act was the end of city's challenge in reality and then Elano gets subbed by Fernandes of all people.
