Peter Crouch Becomes Summer Target

Rumours are beginning to rumble around the possible summer signing of Portsmouth's 6 foot 7 inch striker, Peter Crouch.

Manchester City legend Peter Barnes spoke about the possible move during this weeks 'City Debate Show' on Channel M, and in his opinion the deal is virtually done.

Crouch, (28) left Liverpool for Portsmouth in July 2008 in a deal estimated to be in the region of £11 million, with £9m being paid up front, however the Pompey owner, Alexandre Gaydamak is open to any offers for the Macclesfield born forward having put the south coast club up for sale.

Others in the hunt are thought to be Newcastle United, so long as they can avoid relegation and stay in the top flight.

Surely with the wedge we've got we can afford a far superior striker.

Crouch is (or at least was) a bit of a City fan too. He admitted once on Soccer AM that he used to go with his mum, dad & family to Maine Road as often as possible... It's only a matter of time before he states he'd "walk up the M6" to join us!

I don't think he'll leave us unless he's forced out. He loves it on the south coast..

I have to say I am not a big fan of Crouch ...I would hope we have our sights set a bit higher

I agree 100% Doody. In fact I couldn't have put it better myself.

I would love Roy Keane to sign him for Ipswich.....The big guy will always be there or there abouts......Shame you don't rate him.

We might have to sell him but if we don't, he won't go! With your money you'd think you would want some £25m+ super hero from abroad!

I wouldn't be too dissapointed to see Crouch turn up in a City shirt. Think he'd bag quite a few goals for us with robinho or Bellamy tucked in behind him and Petrov and SWP down the wings

I think Crouch would give Hughes more options as he is very different to our other strikers. He is one of the best English strikers at the moment and is within shooting distance of being the best English scorers this season. Fed by City's pace coming from Robinho, Petrov, SWP down the flanks I could see him doing very well for us.

Let's hope he's number 3 or 4 on our target list...

I see he singlehandedly has prevented Pompey from the drop, Oh no I was wrong he hasn't. I am sorry a good player on his day, but if we buy if its pump the balls to crouch, cant see that being City's game, especially as we are gfathering a squad of talented ball players.
