Chelsea Set To Snap Up Sturridge

Manchester City fan and new blogger, Blue Lad Scragg sent us the following article.

From what I understand, our extremely promising youngster Daniel Sturridge, who in my opinion is rated as one of the best young English talents in the game is on the verge of moving to Chelsea. By all accounts the Stamford Bridge club offered the 19-year-old centre-forward a deal he simply couldn't afford to dismiss - £55,000 a week contract, more than Mark Hughes was ever prepared to pay.

Background

Sturridge became restless when his demand of a ridiculous £75,000-a-week was turned down by the Eastlands hierarchy, baring in mind he's only started ten games last season.

He is obviously a brilliant talent and could turn himself into one of England's top strikers, but only if he concentrates on his game and not the pound signs.

It appears Sturridge is going down the road of other silly and greedy youngsters, who throw away their talent due to idiotic misjudgement. It seems to me that Sturridge has bad advisors who are driven by money and greed.

The future

Sturridge though will have a virtual impossible task nailing down a first-team place especially when they have goal scorers the callable of Anelka, Drogba, Shevchenko (returning from Milan). I say good luck there lad!

The gaffer

Here is what Mark Hughes told Sky Sports on the very subject...

'We have offered Daniel a deal that we think is at the level he should be at. He is in a strong position because he is in the last year of his contract.'

'He is keeping his options open, which he has done for quite some time, we just have to wait and see. Obviously I have made my intentions very clear to him I would like him to stay but it may be out of our hands.'

Good riddance. Hes proved nothing to suggest he would be a loss to city. He will be 4/5th choice striker at chelsea (when fit, which isnt often) Then he will loaned out to burnley or division 1 team. He would be btter of joining stoke and playing every week.

It's a shame in many ways. I think the Academy contracts should be beefed up to protect the club and the graduates. 6-year contracts are signed at Arsenal, why not the same here?

It is a shame if/when he goes but it is the clubs fault for not tieing him down to a longer contract earlier.

Are Chelsea having second thoughts? This has gone very quiet since.
