Eto'o Deal On?

Budding journalist Blue Lad Scragg sent us the following article.

I have heard from a reliable source that Barcelona striker, Samuel Eto'o has signed a pre-contract deal at Manchester City.

I do not know whether or not this is true but this story has been floating around the papers for a while now. It states that Hughes is looking to pull off a sensational £20m deal with Eto'o especially as his current Barcelona contract runs out next year.

The Cameroonian footballer has had some well-publicised arguments with the people at Barca and sources say has been looking for a way out for a while now.

City bosses have indicated that Eto'o has been won over by clubs 'Vision for the Future.' Barcelona have also privately stated that they are willing to sell him.

Here is what Barcelona`s President, Joan Laporta had to say on the matter:

'The market is very dynamic and there could be surprises. He's a wanted man and we know he'll receive offers'

We have been promised big signings this summer and they don't come any bigger than Samuel Eto'o.

Eto'o is 28-years-old and is currently at the peak of his career.

There'll be hysterical reactions from some quarters if this one goes through.

God I hope so....A comment on the evening news website stated "how good would it be if city paraded 3 new shirts with 3 new signings, Barry, Tevez and Eto'o"

Usually the pre-requisite for an agreement between a player and a prospective club is that there is an agreement on a transfer fee between his current employers and the potential new employers. The player representative in this is normally a nominated agent. This is to protect the player-employer relationship. It also allows the agent to protect and confirm their slice of the action. Once the agreement is in place between the clubs then the prospective new employer is given the opportunity to speak with the employer and his agent in respect of agreeing personal terms with the player. If the personal terms are agreed then a pre-contract agreement can be signed between the player and the club subject to various conditions, most likely including a medical. It is at this stage that Hughes would get involved. The negotiations on money will have been handled by other members of the executive team, whilst Hughes does say he has the final decision and indeed initiates the contact between the clubs by nominating the player as a target. If Laporta is saying about Eto'o that "we know he'll receive offers" then it looks as though they have indeed already allowed some clubs to meet asking prices and there could indeed be an opportunity for Eto'o to sign a pre-contract deal subject to medical. I don't want to pour petrol on the ember, but this may well be the stage City is at -- if they have agreed a price with Barcelona. And I don't hink Hughes could be anything more than be delighted to secure Eto'o's signature. He is probably the best striker in Europe over the last two seasons.

Mark Hughes at late April press conference: "It was basically a meeting between Garry Cook and Laporta of Barcelona. It was just trying to build relationships between clubs both in footballing terms, and also business."

Foot Mercato Sport reports today that Inter and Barca met to discuss a possible swap between the two clubs of Zlatan Ibrahimovic for Samuel Eto’o. It transpires that Inter would rather receive a massive 65 million Euros for Ibra than go through with a player swap. Eto'o is sure to leave the Nou Camp this summer.

This needs to happen, if we can get eto'o then others are sure to follow, they'll think ang on a minute this team mean business there not messing about, this move will start the stone rolling and as it gathers pace the moss will fall off "the dead wood " and it will attract more prestige players, we simply must get somebody of this calibre .CTID

If you get Etoo then i think you surely will push for the champions league at very least - hes world class. At the moment despite your expensive and talented squad your still in the Everton, Spurs, Villa class.

OHHHH WE GETTING ARAB MONEY!!!!

I pray this is true. If u analyse etos possible transfer - its very logical he could come city. I think city disscussed eto with barca officials in the meeting before the chelsea game, city would drop interest in villa, leaving the way to barca to get villa. Then we get eto :) Barca are stalling on giving eto a new contract - HINT, HINT. Happy days
enzo city
Huddersfieldyiddo i totally agree kid, but you can definitely see where were heading

I'd go further to suggest that the silent precision of the Barry deal has rocked top flight English football. The hacks were already sharpening the pencils ready for City to fail in the transfer market this summer after the Euro bid failure. Arrsehole Whinger must be on his holidays. He hasn't complained about it yet.

you're welcome to him - looked well poor in the two games against us!
merlin
This would be a great signing ...and the fact we get people like merlin on site trying to rubbish him is proof of how worried the top four are becoming.

I would just like to publicly thank Tudor for his great work to VMC in trying to develop the site. He has single handedly made VMC the biggest vital footaball site on the web. Just thought i'd show my thanks
Blue Lad Scragg
A fantastic player that will be the catalyst for many other fantastic signings to follow. I think by now people in the press and big 4 have begun to realise that we mean business, the signing of a class player like Eto'o will merely reinforce this idea.
