Blades Bid For Chedwyn Rejected

An interesting signal came out of Eastlands today as City turned down Sheffield United's £1.5 million offer for Academy graduate and Welsh international striker Ched Evans...

This is sure to surprise a few Blues. I for one, based upon what we've seen so far from the 20 year old forward and considering City's rumoured transfer targets thought that Ched would be off this summer. Indeed, our latest Vital MC poll saw 79% of Vital MC'ers ready to let the lad go.

He's been the subject of interest from Celtic and Norwich earlier this year but remained on the fringe of first team action as last season wore on.

This episode serves to underline His Highness Sheikh Mansour, Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and Mark Hughes' commitment to the MCFC Academy. The plan to blend City's homegrown players with established international stars continues.

Alongside Chedwyn, the first team squad currently includes Kasper Schmeichel, Micah Richards, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Stephen Ireland, Kelvin Etuhu, Shaleum Logan, Nedum Onuoha, Michael Johnson and Daniel Sturridge who have all come through the City youth ranks.

Not many Premier League sides can boast that level of break through talent.

With young stars like Joe Hart, Valeri Bojinov, Robinho, Pablo Zabaleta, Vincent Kompany and Nigel De Jong The Blues are well set to build a formidable youth based squad.

Nevermind who comes in, the next few weeks will prove fascinating as to whom Mark Hughes keeps on board for next season's domestic focused campaign.

£1.5M is just not enough for such a good Academy graduate. If he fights for his place, takes a leaf out of Stevie Ireland's book -- then he can still come good.

Sounds like a fare price for a player that has never impressed me last season. Hes only had a handful of opportunities, but so has sturridge (when fit) and atleast i can see some quality in his brief appearances. Caceido fought for his spot and scored a few when called upon.I only see hard work and grit from evans - not good enough for the premiership. Hes still young and perhaps another season would benefit him - if he prepared to be 6th choice striker. Id sell him.

1.5m is just not enough for this guy unless your putting in a big sell on clause, we have had this guy right through our acadamy and has proven can play in champ. we should be looking for more cash for ched or just simply loan him for the year. hughes already stated he not selling until we have got the replacement first. and we dont as yet, so dont expect him to be going anywhere soon. keep up good work Ched

If the figure of £10m as compensation for Sturridge is indeed true, then I'd expect at least £3m for this guy.

A season out on loan, one of the promoted clubs maybe.
