Setanta Sports Given 5pm Final Deadline

Sports pay TV company, Setanta Sports has until 5pm today (Friday 19 June, 2009) to pay the English Football Association £30 million or they will lose their England's World Cup qualifiers and next seasons 46 Premier League games.

Setanta has already missed a £3million payment to the Scottish Premier League as part of a £125million deal that runs until 2014, bringing fears that at least two SPL clubs may disappear due to monies owed.

Reports earlier this week suggested an American billionaire was preparing to stump up enough cash to keep the Irish company afloat, however that may now not be the case.

Setanta owe the FA £30m for broadcasting last seasons England internationals and Premier League matches and if they fail to cough up, next seasons TV rights will go out to auction.

The firm's demise would put more than 1,100 jobs at risk.

Latest media reports suggest Setanta will miss the 5pm deadline.

I have been turning the house upside down for that piggy bank I had. I'm sure there's more than 30p in it. I saved it for a rainy day but I guess Setanta need it more than I do. If it gets them out of their troubles then they can have all of it. Maybe it's in the garage, I'll just go look.

Goodbye Setanta. Guess that's what you get for trying to challenge Sky Sports. Pity, they could use some competition, but your efforts were CRAP!

Tudes, you're probably the last living subscriber to Setanta... Mind you he used to play a blinding guitar before he went into broadcasting.

As an aside if you read the Manchester United Evening News then I have news of my own. The City reporter Chris Bailey has left for a job as press officer with MCFC. And guess who has replaced him? The biggest rag on the planet none other than Stuart Brennan yes my friends a red, from a family of died in the wool rags. Only the MUEN could make it up. Guess whose reports I will not be reading.
