'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Official MCFC Website Launches 0500 BST 01/07/09

Monday 29 June 2009 I, along with a select few had the opportunity to preview Manchester City's brand new state of the art official website.

I was hoping to write a full feature on the very subject but alas I didn't leave Manchester until 7:45pm and by the time I arrived home (midnight) I had spent nearly nine hours on the road. In other words I was knackered.

It's pointless going into too many details as by the time many of you read this the site will have launched, therefore I will highlight a few details.

* The company who designed the site began working on the idea way back in November 2008. A total of 10 staff worked tirelessly to get the site ready for launch.

* There will be an Arabic language version, plus three other languages - at least one will be in Spanish.

* The club was not prepared to tell me how much they have invested, but it will have cost an absolute fortune.

* There will be no site adverts.

* No other sports website ANYWHERE in the world will look similar. This is totally groundbreaking.

* There will be no fans forum. Vital Manchester City, Bluemoon and two other independent sites have been included on a links page. Certain forum messages including our own will feature on the clubs main page.

* MCFCTV.com is history. The club will allow free radio match day commentary for everyone to enjoy.

* If the match is played at 3pm on a Saturday free video highlights will be available by midnight on Sunday.

* You will be able to move front page features around the page, IE if you want to drop a certain feature, you will be able to do so.

* Pre-season friendly (South Africa). If no broadcaster takes the games live, the club will try and show the games via the site - live and free!

* Reserve & Youth team games may become available either live or match highlights.

I am sure I've missed out a fair bit, but you'll be able to see for yourself - and soon.

Many thanks go out to the MCFC hospitality including Chris Nield (took me on a one-on-one stadium tour ) Vicky (she's a diamond) Kloss, and Victoria Stansfield.

I'll be online for another hour (until 10pm) is anyone has any questions.

I knew there was something else - buying match day tickets and other club merchandise will be made easier. Just fill up your basket and pay in one go.
Tudor
What the new website called ?
joeb123
Glad to see the back of MCFCTV.com it was always crashing for me. Do they intend to still have the same featured interviews and press conferences on there, in this new free service? David

Just visit the URL as normal - http://www.mcfc.co.uk/default.sps
Tudor
d7mcfc - yes and it's FREE.
Tudor
sounds beautiful. is the live radio broadcast going to be the one done by Andy Hinchcliffe? also do you have any idea if they're keeping the podcast thing going?
severedgein
The radio commentary will be as usual, but the internet bandwidth will be bigger. This will save the audio crashing. As for the podcasts - must admit I didn't ask.
Tudor
i never subscribed to the MCFCTV, so clarify 'as usual' if you would. :-P
severedgein
The club want to engage with the fans hence why they didn't bother with their own forum. They want the current independent sites to continue and flourish.
Tudor
The event was filmed so I guess they might show it on launch day. I'm the one wearing a sky blue t-shirt, pale coloured jeans and with a big nose, bald and with a beer belly. No oil painting i'm afraid. Happy days!
Tudor
Music to Planet Blue's ears Dave! Upwards and upwards! The new owners have built some massive bridges with the fans this past 12 months!
Johnny Baguette
This is making me all kinds of happy, but I'll have to wait until around 7am UK time to see it.
BlueWolfie
I was told the servers would go live at 5am but it may take an hour for the new site to filter down.
Tudor
sounds fantastic, they seem to have included everything the fans wanted! the best site in the world for the best team in the world ;)
eighthsin
I must say from all the tid bits filtering out it sounds like a fantastic site to visit and I can't wait for it to go live .....thanks for the summary Tudor.

JB i agree and also a coup to be included as one of the links.Great to see that they are giving the fans what they want, especially mcfctv for free, for those who cant actually get to the matches.
Buzz Lightyear

Buzz Lightyear

feeddag0at
The website is brilliant. This is a platform that can grow with the club and develop the fanbase right around the world.
Sindbad
It's all up and running now, feeddag0at. Try again and I think you'll be fine.
