Man City Chase Emmanuel Adebayor

Manchester City is thought to be in talks with Arsenal over the possible signing of striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

Sky Sports News are breaking the story (Monday 13 June 2009: 12:30 BST) however no official bid has been submitted. A transfer figure of £20m has been muted.

Rumours surrounding the 25-year-old Tongo international suggest he wants way from the Emirates Stadium.

Please be true. I would love it if you guys took him of our hands. Not that he is a bad player, but his laziness & his pushing for a move last year have left a sour taste in most fans mouths.
paul_ownz
Hahahaha how desperate must you be LOL.
OLASAL
£20M!!! LOL!!!!! ROTFLMFAO!!!!
OLASAL
take him ... please !!
IrishGoon
would still much prefere Aguero
dopeeze
20M is a good deal... He’s 25 years old, big and strong, fast, premiership experience!
mcfcthriller
This is what i've been waiting for. Please, please be true. Let Wenger use that 20 mil to sign two or three others.
Trennon
Swap for robinho? No.. oh well i can dream
paul_ownz
Im confused with citys interest in adebayor. He isnt the calibre of player we were promised by the owners. He had a fine second season and last year he was awful. His performances and behaviour wasnt good at all. With santa cruz, do we need another target striker? Both strikers are always injured aswell. City need a proven 25goal striker like eto, villa, ibrahimavic etc. Not 3rd rate, constantly injured players like adebayor and santa cruz. Mark hughes working his "magic" again :(
enzo city
I hope we forget about Adebayor and concentrate on securing the signing of Tevez. After that, we are set to go.
eighthsin
Perhaps the gooners will only sell us Toure if we buy Adebayor.
Buzz Lightyear
You can have the pair for 45m
paul_ownz
Much as I'd like to have him off our backs, if he came to you I wouldn't be too quick to call him a flop. Although his change in attitude meant he was poor for large periods of last season, his performances in the 07/08 campaign showed just how dangerous he can be. When motivated, he is one of the most difficult players to defend against in the league, and if you can get him to sign a contract with big performance-based bonuses, his money-grabbing nature might make him a success for you.

Man City fans should be well served if this proves accurate. He's fast, he makes runs, links up ok, wins headers, works defenders, makes room for runners like Rob, Ire, WPh. With a front 3 of Rob, Adebey, Tevez and Santa Cruz and Caceid keeping pressure - you could have the league's most potent forward line. Adebey in the right frame of mind can be one of the world's most dangerous and effective forwards (if not finishers - but see his Villareal goal for potential). His self centred attitutude at Arsenal made him unpopular in his last year. He may embrace a squad of Rob, WPh, Tevez and Richards, plus a new fanbase to winover. A win to man city (20 million is about right - more than Cruz, less than Torres, slightly less than Tevez), money in the bank for Arsenal and an ego out the door.

Bellamy should be sold IMO (not that he should have been bought in the first place. Though I can understand Hughes' rationale - steele was needed.
hughied
He has got a talent, but after the way his motivationed dwindled once he got his big contract for us, I would be suspicious. I don't think gooners will ever forgive him for his behavoir last summer!
navydave
i can see this as being a way of letting barca know we are moving our targets elsewhere unless they sort the eto'o deal out and fast. i still think it will be eto'o rather than adebayor.
Mike Hunt
Thats had me thinking Mike. Adebayor to City, Etoo to Arsenal & Villa to Barca. Everyones a winner. kind of
paul_ownz
THat makes sense MH & PO. Eto'o wants Europe, Adebeyor wants out, Barca want Villa. sorted.
Buzz Lightyear
interesting to see how he's not wanted elsewhere and can I add Stamford Bridge as well?
merlin
Looking forward to your 2-2-6 formation next season......
ForeverUnited
ForeverUnited - I doubt very much that you are looking forward to playing us next season mate ;)
oliverblue
oliverblue - ONLY team I worry about playing is Barcelona. They are a class above!
ForeverUnited
Well, at last some news involving Arsenal. I honestly thought they'd gone out of business.
Johnny Baguette
Do we treally need aonther striker ???
alphieblues
As sir bacon face says "you can never have too many strikers"
moonbeam1968
We still need a couple of defenders though to be truthful.
moonbeam1968
city need four class strikers and a youngster pushing through (caiedo). tevez, santa cruz, bellamy and another ( and preferably eto) Boj, benjani etc will be sold as soon as we get the 4th striker. And i hope it isnt adebayor!
enzo city
Probably don't need this guy as we have RSC. But the reaction of Arsenal fans bemuses me. Fair play he had a bad season last year but are you honestly telling me Bendter, Vela and Eduardo are better than him? And if he goes you're being linked with Chamakh, he's hardly a world-beater is he.
butty1
Was talking to a couple of Gooner fans at work today. Their opinion reflects many others in that he's a lazy so-and-so and they can't wait to get rid of him. Now that Tevez is in the bag City i'm hoping we will lose interest.
Tudor
Another quality striker eases the pressure on Robinho to produce game after game. If Hughes sees something in Adebayor, then lets see what he has to offer City. Sometimes a change of Club is a new challenge and we may get the best out of him.
Buzz Lightyear
Let's hope the thrill of the chase wears off very quickly. No thank you very much to Adebayor.
