Ade: Move Over Arsenal! *VIDEO*

Ade: Move Over Arsenal! *VIDEO*

Speaking at the Vodacom Challenge press conference, Emmanuel Adebayor insists that he joined City because they can be in a position to challenge at the top.

Manchester City clinched the signing of the Togo international on a five-year contract from Arsenal, who has since linked up with his new club on its pre-season tour of South Africa.

Adebayor is reported to have made the switch to Eastlands in deal worth around £22m and joins the likes of Barry, Carlos Tevez and Roque Santa-Cruz in Mark Hughes' Champions League challenging squad.

The 6'3 striker stated that he signed for the club because he believes City can compete with the top teams in the league, and could even edge out Arsenal in the race for a Champions League spot.

In answer to City's ambitious plans at the Vodacom Challenge press conference, the 25-year-old striker stated: 'They have the players, they have the squad and they have the spirit to fight for the top four, and that is why I have signed for this club.

'We will do our best, fight on the pitch and see what we can achieve.

'I think we have a chance to fight against Arsenal, to fight against anyone to be in the top four.'

I liked the way you said "Joins the likes of..." then name three players who would be backup at the other top four clubs. Adebayor was sold before he knew it himself, does that not give you an idea of how little Arsenal wanted to keep him?

Yep, thats why Liverpool were so desperate for Barry and why United, Liverpool and Chelsea all wanted Tevez. Good one.

So Tevez wasn't a backup player at United? Because I seem to think he was. And how come Liverpool have not got Barry? Because they did not bid enough for him (it would have been a total brain fart if Rafa had sold Alonso and signed Barry a year ago).

Liverpool didnt bid enough for Barry, doesnt mean they didnt want him. United wanted Benzema but didnt bid enough- its irrelevant. Was Adebayor a backup at Arsenal, no. If Tevez is so poor why did he have to turn down a move to Real Madrid?

I'm actually really bored now of people complaining and ridiculing Man City, we get the idea, hopefully the results will tell you a different story

I'm pretty sure if a serious offer had come in from Real for Tevez he would have gone there, I don't think players are chosing Eastlands over the Bernabeu just yet... And Tevez was a back up player at United, plain and simple, an bak up players are not worth 25 million quid which is why they let him go... And is also why Liverpool were not prepard to pay he full askin price for Barry to simply sit behind Alonso, Mascherano and Gerrard in the midfield pecikng order And if Ade was still wanted at Arsenal, he'd still be there. He wasn't, so he was let go, even to a so-called "rival". You seem so confident that you'll be top 4 and now have a squad to match the big boys, espesially Arsenal- but honestly, deep down do you really think you have players of the calibre of Fabregas, Arshavin, Rosicky, van Persie (who yes, was always rated above Ade at Arsenal), Eduardo (ask any Arsenal fan who they'd rather be in a one on one out of Ade and him- it's a no brainer) and Gallas? No, you don't. All those players you have WOULD be back up at top 4 clubs, sorry.

Sorry but Tevez Adebayor, RSC, Bellamy and Bojinov are far better than Eduardo, Vela and Bendtner... Van Persie is your only saving grace in attack. Robinho is better than Arshavin and Nasri. Your only advantage over City is your defense... for the moment. Come back at the end of the transfer window, your attempts at self reconsiliation are embarrassing.

Robinho better than Arshavin? Sorry mate, that is beyond ridiculous. Robinho scored four at Anfield did he? Average the highest per-game score in the Actim index did he? i think not. Quality player, but Arshavin is in the top 5 players in the world. And yes, Ade would be backup. Eduardo was signed to partner van Persie, not Adebayor. But van persie got injured. Last season van Persie scored 20 goals in a poor Arsenal team, a much better return than Ade's 30 in a firing team.

God don't get tom started on Arshavin again. He's a great player mate but he's played his whole career in Russia, his first full season will either confirm or deny your rating of him. And regards of whether it was in a good team or not, 30 is still more than 20. Plus thats the first season Van persie has got anywhere near to 20 in a season

Sorry tom but if you want statistics, Arshavin's goal to game ratio in Russia is 1 goal every 4.6 games... Average at best. Butty 1 is correct about Adebayor's 30 better than Percie's 20 - even in a 'poor Arsenal team'... Which is exactly what you will be next season as well!
