Victory for Chiefs In Vodacom Challenge

Kaizer Chiefs beat Manchester City by one goal to nil to lift the Vodacom Challenge trophy in Pretoria, South Africa.

A war of attrition for the first half-hour saw the game locked in an uneventful stale-mate.

Chiefs broke the deadlock as the first half neared an end with a contraversial goal from a set-piece. The ball appeared to be controlled by Ntuka's arm before he poked the ball past Shay Given from a few yards out.

City were chasing the game in the second-half, lots of position but no final ball. Their continued surges forwards were matched by Kaizer Chiefs quick counter attacks, the next goal could have gone either way.

As it was, neither side could find a goal and save a couple of decent attempts from both sides, the half was largely uneventful.

The game finished 1-0 to Kaizer Chiefs who had previously beaten Manchester United to lift the trophy.

Hughes' men head home after an eventful time in South Africa that has included some good quality pre-season fitness, meeting living legend Nelson Mandela and witnessing the worst half-time 'win-a-car' competitions in the history of sports.

Full-time: Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 Manchester City

Goals: Ntuka 42' (Chiefs)

Kaizer Chiefs: Khune, Mmbooi, Rooi, Jambo, Ntuka, Lebese, Bulu, Yende, Masenamala, Mathebula, Nhleko.

Manchester City: Given, Vidal (Ben Haim 16), Dunne (Zabaleta 36), Onuoha (Weiss 73), Bridge, Barry, de Jong, Wright-Phillips, Petrov (Robinho 58), Bellamy, Adebayor.

This is so funny! The Kaiser Chiefs! I can't wait for the PL season to start and seeing Ali Baba Hughes' glum face making excuses for loss after loss. He's bought tripe players and rejects for huge sums and the arab club is ALREADY a farce. Lovely! City fans have sold out their heritage for a few handfuls of gold and they can't even buy a smirk. LOLOL!

lol... I find it funny Cecil that you're coming on here commentating on pre-season friendly results. I don't even know who other teams are playing pre-season never mind anxious enough to go on their site and comment on them. You must be really worried.

Guys could you explain this loss? I mean, its not exactly a good result right? Surely even a heavy legged PL team can defeat the Chiefs!

We did beat the Kaizer Chiefs the other day, just not today plus the fact we're still experimenting with players/formations

United lost to Kaizer Chiefs in the final a few years back. Its a pre-season friendly, hardly Champions League! Go check out Liverpools pre-season results if you want a good laugh.

Right, I guess you need to experiment on how to play 7 strikers all at once, eh? :-)

I can't believe the amount of bitter and jealous individuals that come posting on here. We lost! So what? Clearly the small people out there find Manchester City more interesting than their own teams. For that reason, they have my pity!

My favorite part of the game today was after, when Ntuka was interviewed and admitted he handballed to goal. Very nice to see sincere honesty in this world. As far as the idiots coming on here to flame, how can a South Korean squad put two past the MUFC yesterday? Does that mean they're not going to be challenging this year? Oh wait...

I wish people would stop being so critical, all I care about is the premier league results

WOW! It's nice to see other teams' fans caring more about our results than we do. I guess we really have arrived folks.

I hate this club with some passion but this result isn't really something to rub their faces in about. Its a common pre-season friendly and I don't even think for a second they used the eleven that will start the first day of the season. I'm waiting for the losses that count!

Taggart has to say these words, he is deflecting losing Ronaldo and Tevez, his kidnap of Berbaflop and having to pay OTT money for this failed striker. What did big spending Man Yoo do? They went out and got Owen, thats how much confidence he has in his Bulgarian.Taggart Do we expect Man Yoo, Chelsea Liverpool and the Gooners just to roll over? Of course not, but does Taggart expect the rest of the Premier to accept that only those four club should compete year in year out in the Champions League?
