City Fans Are Talking About Joleon Lescott

Sky Sports News suggest Manchester City are going to make Everton an improved offer for their defender, Joleon Lescott.

The last bid of 15 million was turned down by the Everton board but would they be in a position to turn their noses up at a cheeky 20m offer?

Here is what a few City fans think...

oliverblue - I think that one of the benefits of bringing Lescott in is that he is left footed, and can fill in at LB should the need arise. Whether MH deems it fit to bring in another LB, I'm not too sure.

steee - Kompany is better than Lescott and hope we don't raise our offer of 15 mil because that would just be Everton taking the p***. If we don't get him, move on and get someone better.

Paul City Mad Fenton - I like him, granted he is no silky defender but he is an old skool cb with bags of pace, scores vital headed goals (something we did not do enough of) and more to the point a left footer.

We were undone too many times last year in the channel between LB and LCB due to the fact that our left sided cb was a right footer. I think allowing Dunny to play right sided cb worst case scenario will actually see him back to his best as he will be confident with a left footer next to him like when Distin was at the club.

I would of course like to see 2 centre backs join the revolution adding real competition for places, maybe Carvalho?? desperate to leave Chelsea and a better cb than Terry?

mcfctop4 - Lecott over bridge all day long mate.. I would hope Lescott being able to play straighter football would bring Robbie right into the picture again. Bridge can only cross and hence fed Bellamy and SWP all season on the right.. We need that link to LW/LF to bring any of these quality strikers into the game.. We know we have the right and midfield stitched up with SI/Barry/SWP/Tevez/Elano etc its just the back corners and the link to the left that we need to prevail in, Maicon can cross like a demon so Robbie would get fed from there but if Lescott plays straighter as well it`ll be open season on opposition defenders...

Its just a shame i would have liked to see Glen Johnson come to us as well, having him able to drop it onto the noses of Ade and RSC would be a right touch as well..

I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's just not going to happen unless a truly ludicrous bid is made. We need to sign a CB as it is in the 3 weeks before the season starts, there's no way we will manage to sign 2 in that time. We have one rate of doing transfers, slow. You expect Moyes who generally buys 1 first team player a season, to complete a move for a new CB pairing in 3 weeks? If City really wanted Lescott they'll have to wait till january IMO, I don't see why you don't just go for Upson, a similar player who would cost much less. For Moyes to sell lescott, the rumours around Goodison are he wants cash, Onouha on a permanent deal AND Richards on loan for a season with a view to buy. Which would be utterly ridiculous. If City continue to chase Lescott it's clear to me they want him more because somebody said no to them.

I agree with you EM, Everton need to buy another CB not to get sell one... You also need a right-back because Hibbert is awful- pity Tottenham snatched Naughton away, maybe you can buy Chimbonda, Hutton or Corluka from them because they are overloaded at right-back. Good luck next season- Hope Jo does well for you and we can get our money back!

evertonmike...well if upson is just like lescott but cheaper then why dont you sell lescott and buy upson ;0) he is coming to us if you like it or not mate
Mike Hunt
He wont if its just based on football reasons ;)

Zbam, thats getting a bit tired now.

MikeHunt, on paper that would make sense. But we need Lescott as our back up left back (since we only have 1) and unlike City we can't spend big money on back up players so we'd get stuck with somebody ***** there if Baines got injured. Also why would we sell a settled player, to buy a similar player? You may be trying to sign a complete new team, but we just don't do that. Back in early June Lescott - City would have made sense, now it doesn't, it's too close to the season to sell a key player in a position we have far too few players as it is! I'm sure you'll keep convincing yourself he's going to sign anyway, despite how illogical the deal would be, but I think your going to be a bit dissapointed come September 1st.

Lescott is left footed and thats what we lack on that side of the field, Onuoha has to think before he kicks and this gives the attack the benefit, Lescot will balance out the side and give it more stability. I think your best bet would be Syvain Distin as a replacement for Lescott and cheaper than Upson and left footed.

everyone knows defense is the foundation of the team. While u guys were out shopping for all the strikers in the world u should have been shopping for some defense (instead of waiting on Terry). But i guess all u guys need is another CB. Kompany is there and you have Bridge on the left and Mica Richards also. all u need is more depht. But u guys may have one of the best lineups in the league i must admit. with those strikers u have with Robinho on the left and SWP on the right with Barry and Ireland in the middle will be interesting.

Lescott would be a much welcome addition to our defense. simples.
