Mourinho Takes The Mickey?
Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho thinks Manchester City is capable of winning this seasons Premier League title. Is he taking the Mickey?
I along with tens of thousands of City fans would love us to win the 2009/10 trophy but come on, lets be serious. Even the most die-hard fan must be mad if he thinks we can mount a serious challenge, well not for a couple of seasons anyway.
It takes time to build a team ethos - it takes time to build team spirit, it simply takes time.
Motor-mouth Mourinho has this to say...
'Adebayor up front with Carlos Tevez - unbelievable! And they have Roque Santa Cruz and Robinho too. What a strike force! That's it, City are champions for sure.'
'It's not buying the title. You buy the players you think can do the job but you still need to prove you are the best - the best coach, the best team and that's tough and no amount of money can buy that.'
Buy the title? Oh yes, I seem to remember now when Kenny Dalglish teamed up with Blackburn Rovers, and with Sutton and Shearer won the league at the first time of asking.
To knock Arsenal out of the top 4 will do this season. As for 2010/11, well who knows but i'll say this. I'll be more than happy to eat humble pie should Hughes and Co do the incredible.

With these comments and the ones he made about United it looks like he is trying to keep his future options open should he return to England. I think that he is trying to say that we are now signing the best players and if we also had the best manager in the shape of the self proclaimed 'Special One' then we would win the league.

That's what you're aiming for, fine - but what would be considered a failure?

ArsenalRob. The club has stated that improvement year on year is what is expected. so this year we are aiming for top 6 anything else is a bonus.

Every City supporters opinion is different but for me after spending so much if we didn't make top 4 it would be a failure.

Top 6 is the stated aim of our owners and manager, but given the levels of investment we should be looking to finish above the likes of Villa, Everton and Spurs and finish 5th as a bare minimum. Whether we can finish in the top 4 is anyone's guess, and while I think it could be possible it may be too soon for such a newly assembled squad. A lot will depend on what happens at Arsenal and Liverpool, who I would currently deem the most likely candidates to make way for us, although United may fail to mount a significant challenge this season.

It's a tough one, as to where we will/should finish. We have never reached the top six, and this is where the owners want us to be at the end of this season. However, and this is no disrespect to Everton, Spurs, WH, Fulham, Villa and so on, but as it stands now, I see City's squad as being better than theirs, and as such, 5th surely must be the aim. We ain't gonna win the league this time around (I see Chelsea doing that), but if 5th is really there for the taking, then maybe 4th could be attainable after a good fight. Once we are in the CL, then absolutely anything is possible during the 2010/11 season.

City are stil a couple of years away from really challenging....you need to get the team, working together first before worrying about winning the premiership

No the title is not within our grasp this season but with what we have spent Top 4 should be possible if we play well and are managed well. There is no reason why we shouldn't do either of these as we have good players and I believe a good manager. What I believe Mourinho is saying that he is such a good manager that with the players that City have at his disposal he would win the title. He always was a mite modest.

Kolo is a great signing and I'm surprised Arsenal let him go. That much I'll admit but this top four talk is getting really overplayed now! Maybe you should concentrate on getting back into the Europa League first? Where did you finish last season? 10th? Maybe you should concentrate on IMPROVING on that first! 10th!? Absolutely embarrassing that even with all your investments last year, you should finish behind West Ham and Fulham! You want to go straight from that to fourth? With Hughes as the manager? Good luck with that one.
