City Turn Their Attention To Sébastien Bassong

Manchester City have given up on signing Everton's Joleon Lescott in favour of Newcastle United defender, Sébastien Bassong.

Mark Hughes and his negotiating team have been left frustrated with the Toffees board especially after they keep holding out for more money, and now we understand City have turned their attention to Sébastien Bassong.

Other contenders for the Frenchman's signature include Arsenal, however the 23-year-old is thought to favour Manchester City.

Bassong told France Football...

'Foreign teams have made enquiries but as my priority is to stay in England, I haven't followed them through. Clearly it would be better if everything went quicker but I am not worried.'

'Some Premier League clubs are interested in me but not everything is simple given that Newcastle are in the process of being bought out and the name of the future manager is still not known.'

Bassong is a graduate of the famous Clairefontaine youth academy. It has a high reputation of producing some of the world's most gifted players, including the likes of Thierry Henry, Nicolas Anelka, William Gallas and Louis Saha.

its time for lescott to put in a request if he really wants to play for us and win medals then now is the time he needs to open his mouth, hopefully this will be the shock he needs to force him into requesting cos he wont want to miss out, these players like terry and lescott want to come and play for us but they also want us to look like the bad party to get there signature well lescott city have played there part NOW ITS DOWN TO YOU!

Think it's a ruse... Still say we should throw in bids for Sergio Ramos and Philip Lahm.

I can think of worse buys than Bassong ......depends on the price though.

I don't see this happening at all, yet another hack with a few inches to fill.

I have not seen anything which suggests this is true apart from the papers guessing again or are they scouting for us. Lescott not available, so who will City go for next and came up with Bassong.
Buzz Lightyear
I'm not sure Bassong is good enough for the squad Hughes is building. There are much better players around.

zbam they do wanna come and play for us your the bigger joker if you think they dont! terry was inches away from requesting and lescott is about to request so there you go you idiot, lescott has more chance of winning medals at city than he ever will at everton with skeletor incharge, terry can see the future and knows it isnt chelsea but they might just last long enough for him to see out his career at the top! Baaaaa
