Ade Knacked As City Striker Crisis Looms

Hard to have even contemplated this a fortnight ago, but City's striking options are starting to look somewhat thin on the training ground...

Mark Hughes, when recently discussing Roque Santa Cruz's ongoing rehabiliation from Blackburn knee surgery remarked that City had plenty of strikers to cover his absence.

Well, if Adebayor's return of a persistent groin problem on Togo international duty is confirmed, then we can certainly rule out that long needed height up front for the Blackburn opener.

City currently have nine forwards on the books. Bojinov, Caicedo and Jo have all gone on season long loans.

Of the remaining six, Bellamy, Robinho and Benjani, himself on a long haul back from a serious thigh injury will be just about the fittest choices Sparky has right now. Tevez will have only trained for one week and Crocky and Ade are out.

In point of fact, most of City's strikers for the 2009-2010 campaign have fragile injury records.

It will be interesting to see how Sparky approaches this situation now. Did he make one loan out too many?

Is this proof that Ciity needs a bigger squad if the club is serious about a Top 4 finish? Should City be loaning out good players when we don't have to -- and selling quality players? The season hasn't even started and the issue is a hot one.
Sindbad
We have more quality striking options than anyone in the league Sinbad. So have the other 17 teams not serious about a top 4 finish? United have what 3 strikers with any experience... Chelsea 2.... etc etc etc.... we have double the experience up front than the others even after loans.
MCFC_Goatboy
now that's just funny....

Striker crisis? So the whole team is fubar now, yeh? lol. Sheep
Zbam
I hope you are right MCFC_Goatboy. But only time will tell. I'd rather City weren't lengthening the odds on success when it makes more sense to shorten them, and keep players available. Don't forget that in RSC and Bellamy we have two strikers whose careers have suffered terribly through injury lay-offs. Unless Mark Hughes has been given some magical spell from a Hogwarts defence against the dark arts teacher -- they'll both be out for large parts of the coming season. City have Tevez, Robinho and Adebayor who have managed long seasons at the highest level. That's why I am concerned when one of the three gets injured just before a season.

Why don't we recall Jo?
fifthcolumnblue
Yeah, but have you heard? Arsenal have six first teamers out of action for the beginning of the season. But then I suppose you'd expect that at Arsenal LOL
BlueWolfie
I agree with Goatboy at one time this would have been a disaster, but with Bellamy, Tevez and Robinho, no problem, and it is too early to say that Manu will not play.
Buzz Lightyear
well im sure ade will be fit and so will bellamy and toure, its a case of saying players arnt fit so they dont have to go on international duty im sure.
bluemooner_mcfc
Hope you're right BM. If they are knacked and considering some injury records we might have to rotate some of the squad through the treatment room, lol!

zbam certainly seems to have a predilection towards sheebsh****ng!

MCFC_Goatboy - Oh come on.....Bellamy, Adebayor, Carlos Tevez and Santa Crock are hardly the most prolific of strikers are they?
ForeverUnited
Theres no bigger crook in world football than michael owen and perhaps the television cameras were playing tricks on the viewers, when united sang "FERGIE SIGN HIM UP" for tevez. Adebayor will score more than flop berbatov in the league this year.

We've gone from having loads of strikers to not many fit strikers in a matter of weeks - it could only happen to us!
