Brazilian Whiz Kid Close To City Signature

Blue Lad Scragg sent us the following...

According to The Sun, Manchester City FC are set to beat Chelsea to the signing of highly rated Brazilian whiz kid, Rafael de Souza Rodolfo.

The newspaper claims Robinho has had a big part to play in persuading the player, known as Pernao in a move to Eastlands.

The 16-year-old striker is yet to play for the Fluminense first team but his development in the youth team has caught the eye of many of Europe's big boys.

City were the quickest out of the starting blocks of all of the interested European clubs by secretly inviting the youngster to Manchester where he met his fellow Samba star, Robinho.

Mark Hughes is confident of tying up a £3m deal after talks with his family and club representatives. However, Pernao's boss Renato Gaucho has warned him of making the move too soon:

Renato Gaucho said...

'He should think twice before leaving. It will be difficult for him to adapt. It is another country, another language and the difficulties are bigger still.'

This news is really exciting because this youngster is a fantastic player and certainly one for the future.

It isn't just because of his potemtial, but that City jumped in front of everyone with him (admittedly, Robbi certainly helped)

There's a picture on a Scouting site showing Robinho with Pernao and they're both wearing the ETIHAD City away shirt for the cameras! I'll try to find it again and post a link

I think we are building for the future and looking to save money in the end and produce these players from the Academy with Jim Cassells guidance into the first team.

Good deal for city and im sure robinho will be a father figure to him when he signs. I hope we keep foreign signings to minium of 4 in the youth teams to give british lads a chance. I have no problem with weiss and Rafael de Souza Rodolfo coming through. Now we need to find the new messi!

Sounds promising but could be expensive for somebody who may fail to acclimatise. Its probably good that we are now getting these sort of players across early so that they can get used to the different climate a few years before they will make the first team and it may also help to install a higher workrate ethic to these foreign players so that it can help remove the lazy, showboating ways that some of them have.
