Sylvinho Signs For City

Manchester City have finalised the capture of Brazilian left-back Sylvinho on a one-year contract after the 35-year-old was released from Barcelona at the end of last season.

The experienced former Arsenal man will step in as cover for Wayne Bridge with speculation over Javier Garrido's future mounting.

The free transfer shows that the Club is not all about the money it spends, but the quality it is able to aquire.

Hughes told mcfc.co.uk: 'Sylvinho has a wealth of experience at the very top level, having represented Brazil and played for some of the very top clubs in Europe.

'When the chance presented itself to bring him to Manchester City as a free agent I saw it as representing excellent business for us.

'Sylvinho won the European Cup last season at Barcelona and he will strengthen our defensive options.'

Hughes is hoping that international clearance will be granted in time for City's Carling Cup clash against Crystal Palace on Thursday.

The Brazilian will wear the number 16 shirt vacated by Kasper Schmeichel.

Bl**dy bl**ding cit€h!!real time dreamers..seriously u wanna achieve?get jose mourinho!,hughes is dumb..i'l do beta.

The da vinci code was solved in quicker time than I could decipher your nonsense blueogre! I think this signing is to give Robinho another friend in the dressing room.

I think that the only reason that we have bought Sylvinho is because Hughes would trust him to do a job if selected and he has been used to sitting on the sidelines at Barcelona. I'd expect Garrido to be gone within the next couple of days and Racing Santander have been linked with him. I doubt that this signing has much to do with Robinho as they are pretty much from a different generation with Sylvinho being 35 and Robinho being 24/25, being Brazilian would probably be all that they have in common!

U guys will place silvinho on a salary just to make friends?wow!..:-/ just great...well maybe u should sign romario too..or perhaps bebeto!

If your managerial skills are anything like your command of the english language blueoafgre then I suspect you won't do better than Hughes (that's an ironic understatement in case you missed it). This guy might be 35 years old, but he's better than Garrido (who can now go), will allow McGivern time to develop and has bags of PL and Champs League experience. He'd used to winning and at his age will not expect to start every game. Brilliant signing in my book.

5thcolumnblue we beat u guys convincingly in yr stadium last season(with 10men) managed by scolari who's command of english was a lil better than ur knowledge of football:) ...tell u smthing??
blueogre
Does your sister have a mobile blueogre, have you posted her picture yet.

When do you start school blueogre and does your dad know you're using his computer, did your sister turn it on for you?

This is a freat signing as slyvinho is experienced and a classy fullback. Infact judging by his performances last season for barca - he is better than wayne bridge. He good we have a 30plus player within our squad to help city and hes coming of treble winning season from barca. Anyone suggestin that signing the odd 30yr old for ambitious clubs is a stupid move - i give examples to prove otherwise. Mark hughes, vialli, gullit, deco to chelsea / Macallister to liverpool/ laurent blanc, van der saar, henrik larsen to united / I rest me case.

I agree with eighthsin. The first thing I thought was 'a minder for Robinho'. An influential older friend from his own culture. Probably a hard working good guy. A possible exemplar.... all will be revealed. Maybe.

Reply to Sir Troyster's poll.. As far as we know Hughes did everything right by all the books we know about.

Nice one buzzlight..been nice rubbing minds with y'all.away with the bitterness i just think its crazy signing a 35yr old nobody..considering ur ambitions.btw i really enjoyed the l'pool game, didnt u?so long fellas
blueogre
looks like blueorge has run out of porn sites....so hes come on here to vent his frustrations.

Roy,Robinho lost Berti and Elano, Geovanni at Hull, so I think that the signing of Sylvinho as a stable mate is just about right.
Buzz Lightyear
Cheers Buzz. He was on his own when all his fellow Brazilian gladiators were shipped off to the outer Empire. The social aspect of a players life can be crucial, as we all know. (re-Gazza and Best etc). Mine was hilarious at his age!
