Sylvinho Signs For City

Manchester City have finalised the capture of Brazilian left-back Sylvinho on a one-year contract after the 35-year-old was released from Barcelona at the end of last season.

The experienced former Arsenal man will step in as cover for Wayne Bridge with speculation over Javier Garrido's future mounting.

The free transfer shows that the Club is not all about the money it spends, but the quality it is able to aquire.

Hughes told mcfc.co.uk: 'Sylvinho has a wealth of experience at the very top level, having represented Brazil and played for some of the very top clubs in Europe.

'When the chance presented itself to bring him to Manchester City as a free agent I saw it as representing excellent business for us.

'Sylvinho won the European Cup last season at Barcelona and he will strengthen our defensive options.'

Hughes is hoping that international clearance will be granted in time for City's Carling Cup clash against Crystal Palace on Thursday.

The Brazilian will wear the number 16 shirt vacated by Kasper Schmeichel.

The da vinci code was solved in quicker time than I could decipher your nonsense blueogre! I think this signing is to give Robinho another friend in the dressing room.

I think that the only reason that we have bought Sylvinho is because Hughes would trust him to do a job if selected and he has been used to sitting on the sidelines at Barcelona. I'd expect Garrido to be gone within the next couple of days and Racing Santander have been linked with him. I doubt that this signing has much to do with Robinho as they are pretty much from a different generation with Sylvinho being 35 and Robinho being 24/25, being Brazilian would probably be all that they have in common!

If your managerial skills are anything like your command of the english language blueoafgre then I suspect you won't do better than Hughes (that's an ironic understatement in case you missed it). This guy might be 35 years old, but he's better than Garrido (who can now go), will allow McGivern time to develop and has bags of PL and Champs League experience. He'd used to winning and at his age will not expect to start every game. Brilliant signing in my book.
