'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Platini Lifts Lid On Hilarious Chelski Revelation

File under you couldn't make it up. G14 Elite club apologist and ill informed anti-City pontificator UEFA President Michel Platini has revealed an approach from Chelsea's owner...

In a laughable development, the selective in his warning targets UEFA leader has let slip that Roman Abramovich wants resurgent City's spending arrested. Funny old thing...

'City can spend £300m if they want to, but if they are not breaking even in three years then they cannot play in European competition' declared the all of a sudden again decisive when slagging City Platini.

Then, seemingly confused about any previous encounters with His Highness Sheikh Mansour he went on adding an impassioned description of Chelsea's formerly spendthrift owner into the mix:

'I haven't spoken to Manchester City about this and I don't remember meeting their owner but I'm sure I will. I have, however, met with Roman Abramovich.'

'He is a football person and is passionate about the game. He loves football. But he has come to me and said that we must do something about this. It doesn't matter if one team doesn't agree, because this is what the clubs want. I have spoken to Silvio Berlusconi at AC Milan and Massimo Moratti at Inter Milan, as well as Abramovich; all agree we have to do something. Abramovich, Berlusconi, Moratti, they do not want to fork out any more.'

It's as stunning as it is pitiful. So they're after desperately closing ranks then and it's clear that with every City signing or win, no matter who that is or who it's against, panic is setting in.

The message from the vast majority of Manchester City fans this morning will be bring on that homegrown player you want rule Mr. Platini.

Take a look at our squad list. We're ideally placed to give you all a game with or without the financial clout that the G14 have enjoyed unchallenged for years.

Bring it on.

How can any team outside the top 4 now hope to achieve anything. I think City are trying to get into the CL quicker than they originally planned, this would enable them to increase their revenue. This is a plan to ruin competition in the Premier and therefore ruin football as we know it in this country.Clubs like City, Spurs, Villa, Everton will never be allowed to compete for the best players because you can only increase your revenue by being successful and qualifying for the money making competitions and the only way you can do that is to spend money to try and get you into that postion to actual compete on a even level. This is a plan to keep the Staus Quo. why bother at all.
Buzz Lightyear
Why bother indeed...hey why not just cut them adrift into a European Super league, where they all make millions and billions zillions year in year out.....Wait!!!! is this not called the Champions League already?...Silly me...They don't like it up em you know!

What a confused piece. To start with, you can't call Michel Platini a G-14 apologist: one of the first things Platini did was to disband the G-14 to create another forum, the ECA. I'm sure that this was a piece of news that passed by Manchester City, as they were never in the running to be a member of the G-14. Platini's declarations concern clubs taking part in UEFA competitions. Don't worry City, I'm sure that there will be special rules that allow you to continue to play in the Europa League.
EuroBlue
Disbanded is it? That'll be the name change then. Platini is indeed a confused piece. dead right we were never in the running to be G14 member. Christ even that riposte smacks of closed ranks arrogance. Now Kenyon is openly complaining about tax issues. Something up at Chelsea?
Johnny Baguette
While am at it, who were the 16 founder members of the ECA?
Johnny Baguette
I'll save you a job. Here are the clubs that aren't running European football with ultimate influence any more ......Real Madrid CF FC Barcelona AC Milan Juventus FC Olympique Lyonnais Rangers FC Manchester United FC Chelsea FC FC Bayern Munich AFC Ajax FC Porto Olympiacos FC RSC Anderlecht Birkirkara FC NK Dynamo Zagreb FC København

Pratini is certainly trying everything in his power to stop Citeh breaking into the Champions League. He must be gettinbg a big pay day from the others !!!

Roman Abramovich simply doesnt want to spend anymore money at chelsea. Their plan to be self sufficient in 5years was goin according to plan till ADUG got city. Liverpool and United are heaverly in debt and wont cause chelsea "plan" much problems. But city can. Platinti will look favourable at french teams like arsenal who are near in the black. The Italian prime minister/ac milan belsconi is backing this plan too. Platini plan will force big teams to break away from uefa and form a new competition. I actually like the idea of a more competitive champions league, where teams like porto and ajax have a realistic chance. But teams that generate funds via sponsoreship, tickets, tv AND owners should NOT be banned from competition. Surely if a team in near 100 million debt like real madrid, liverpool, united, ac milan, valencia etc and buyin players worth 50 million should be under threat. Not city.
enzo city
*****tini's plan is full of holes anyway any 6 year old could see that all you have to do is get the extra revenue. Here's a few suggestions; sell a corporate box in the stadium for 100 million a year (wonder who could afford that lol). Get Etihad airways to increase their sponsorship by about the same amount. Play a sponsored match in Abu Dhabi etc etc etc. The French idiot is deluded.

Euroblue which special rules are these?

Abramovich's heart isn't in it these days as he doesn't want to spend the money or sign the top players anymore. Though reports of losing a large percentage of his fortune in the credit crunch, a multi-million pound yacht in a game of cards in Barcelona and being stung by the divorce courts probably haven't helped him!
Kevinho
What worries me more is that own owners ambition is not just to make City the best Club in the world but to sell that club globally and then start to increase the revenue to such an extent that equals or surpasses United, this move by Platini appears to be trying to surpress competition that would not allow any club to expand at all outside the top 4 . Its a catch 22 situation, you can't get to the top without spending money, but if you do spend money then you will be disqualified from entering the competition, who does that benefit? It worries me that our owners may just simply just pack it in as their appears to be obstacles whatever they try to do. The biggest one appears to be that one which does not allow an owner to gift his club money, why?
Buzz Lightyear
this is what the russian mafia wants as cheslsea will be bolloxed WHEN he says that's it i'm OFF and want my money back as he transfered all his spending in 2005/07 to interest free loans in the same way the Wardle did with us... anly on a much bigger scale, to get chelsea to win the PL then conquer the CL, and the best chance they had of that was 2 yrs ago and FAILED. now he see's us as VERY LARGE THREAT, and cant stand the heat, so is now moaning to the waste of space thats called Prickini....
cityman51
No one is allowed to upset the applecart of the established "top teams", plain and simple. The rules will be changed to protect the cartel and that's how it will always be. How dare these "arabs" attempt to sit at the high table? Perhaps the EU's competition commisioner should be notified of Plattinis attempts at suppressing competition in football? Also quite funny how the powers that be at the FA have come out and said there was nothing wrong with the way City are conducting their business!
