Deadline Day: Rigsby Out, Bentley In?

VMC Admin is not sure this is going to go down too well across Planet Blue. Rumours are rumbling around SportCity that Tottenham's unpredictable David Bentley is to join The Blues today...

Former Blackburn old boy and Hughes favourite, Bentley has had a torrid time of it at Tottenham Hotspur after signing a year ago for £15 million whereby he's made 2 starts for Harold Redknapp this year.

This situation culminated in the bad boy reputationed winger piling in his car drunk recently and getting banned for a year. He's been going off the rails for some time while his England career has nosedived.

Contrast his reputation with the popular Martin Petrov. Petrov has given us some memorable moments in sky blue and has yet to let Sparky down when called upon recently.

But, having been brought back carefully by City medical staff from a serious knee injury last season, Rigsby has lost some pace and certainly some of his reknowned sense of humour. Only recently he went to the sports hacks in Bulgaria bemoaning that if he doesn't get regular football this season he's off. Many of us were unimpressed by his comments considering the support City have given him.

There'll be plenty of Blues out there today who will be as concerned about Bentley's reputation as they were and, to an extent still are, over Craig Bellamy's signature.

Yet, Petrov is 30 years old and Bentley 25. After already bringing home SWP then signing Bridge, Taylor, Given, Lescott, Barry and indeed Bellamy, Sparky's intention to improve the squad's communication are very clear.

Good business or bad business? Give us a shout both here and in the VMC Forums...

- In another development, the woeful Tal Ben-Haim becomes the 28th player to leave City this year with a move which confirms the desperation at Portsmouth.

I reckon it's a decent bit of business, Bentley had his best seasons under Hughes, and Petrov seems to be itching for a move. Strengthening a rival is not ideal, and the move won't go down too well with a lot of fans, but ultimately, Petrov ain't getting any younger and is sulking, so what can Hughes do?

Murdoch News reports that City are in talks for Bentley this morning. They are unsure if Rigsby is part of the deal...

Why do we need this aggrogant trouble maker, Didn't make it at the Gooners, had one good season at Blackburn, let down Stuart Pearce at the last moment when he could not get a replacement. Drink driving, fights. I just don't know. Petrov looks increasingly likely to go, as the substitue on Saturday was significant.

thank you...it is very good business...FOR US!!! hahahahah

if he can't make it there in time, since he is banned from driving, let me know i'll drive bentley up there myself free of charge....!!!

Not bothered if we get Bentley or not but not happy with Petrov going to Spuds.

cyspurs sky reported at 11 that pertov wont be going as you will be getting niko kranjcar from pompey.and bently may only join city on a loan.

In the long term this is a good deal for city. I hear whispers this could be a loan deal. Bentley performs well for hughes. But maybe im missing the point... bentley is a right winger like swp and weiss. Bentley is meant to be petrov replacement - yet he is a left winger?!? Robinho id right footed, but loves driftin in. Bellamy is a strker, but played on the left wing even though he is RIGHT footed. Surely city must sign a natural left footer if petrov goes. Hughes has recruited left footed, leftbacks - right footed/right backs - left footed/centreback etc I predict city will sign another player other than bentley by 5 today.

Hope that Hughesy can inspire Bentley & get back to his B/Burn days!!

Numerous websites are now saying that David Jalopy is definitely not coming. They say Hughes himself has made a comment to that effect -- but I haven't been eble to find the quotation yet. Curious...

Well we're not interested in Bentley and Petrov still hasn't been seen at Spurs.

As the clock ticks on, we'll hang on and see what gives!!
