City Issue Calm Response To Rennes Accusations

MCFC, as is the way these days have reacted in a professional, measured way to the finger pointing of Pierre Dreossi, Rennes Technical Director...

The Brittany/Bretagne club are accusing City of inducing teenage defender Jeremy Helan to break a contract with the Ligue 1 club and have complained to FIFA.

City's statement reads:

'Manchester City is aware of the ongoing contractual dispute in the French Labour Courts between Jeremy Helan and Stade Rennais. The dispute between the player and the Club pre-dates any interest from Manchester City.

Manchester City obviously cannot comment on the case until the French Judicial Process has run its course, however we are comfortable that we have acted within the rules throughout the process and in no way induced any breach of contract by Jeremy Helan.'

Meanwhile, FIFA have confirmed that they are investigating the issue:

"There is a case pending with Fifa's Player Status Department involving Jérémy Hélan, Stade Rennais FC and Manchester City."

As today's Guardian confirms, UEFA President Michel Platini's plan to implement a European transfer ban on all players under 18 years old suddenly has an opportunity to gather pace.

More on this developing story as we get it...

Blimey! What is the upshot of all this in the unlikely event this goes against City? Are we talking a transfer embargo a la Chesea?
Kid Charlemagne
Hopefully it won't come to that. Sounds like City are pretty confident that they will come out of this alright and I would be very surprised if their legal men didn't run the fine tooth comb over this deal before it went ahead.

France holds a lot of sway at the highest level. I mean just look at that official name: "Fédération Internationale de Football Association." That seals it!

I'm sorry... WHO? has this kid even joined our academy?
severedgein
He turned out for the reserves a few games last season, for sure.
Johnny Baguette
I mentioned him when we signed that German lad... I said we had McGivern.. and Helan already there for left back so why were we getting him. From the little I've seen of Helan though he looks absolute quality.
MCFC_Goatboy
Good to hear Goat. We'll need all the Academy and Reserve players we can lay our hands on when we get banned from transfers for 10 years. lol!
Johnny Baguette
Im confident will be proven of no wrong doing.

Le Havre getting in on the act to FIFA over the rags signing of Paul Pogba in August. Lens, Rennes and Le Havre = Platini.

Think we can all expect a lot more finger pointing from the chairmen of small clubs that have lost players to Premier League Clubs. Like vultures around roadkill, every chancer will start bleating about how various English Clubs have taken their best players for minimal money in the hopes that said poachers will "settle out of court" and they'll be in for a big payday. Expect French clubs to lead from the front (for once!), as they will be only too happy to provide Prattini with some ammo against the Premier League.

The kid's contract with Rennes is in dispute. We can't break a contract which doesn't exist. Also there is NO allegation there were inducements to the lad's family and /or advisors. This could go on forr years. City are likely being used as a Public Relations ploy by clubs who have clearly broken the law... It diverts attention from them
sindbad
Good points, Blues. I still reckon Platini's push to ban all transfers on players under 18 (widely backed in France) is behind this sudden wave of complaints. City's appearance on the scene has really put the chat amongst the pigeons!
