'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Gazzer Southgate In Support Of Ade Aid

Following the lead taken by Ipswich gaffer Roy Keane, Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate has also spoken out against the hysteria surrounding the er, evil Emmanuel Adebayor...

The astute Boro manager said:

'We have a strange ruling on celebrations. My dad would say why don't we just shake hands and run back to the centre circle like we used to, probably. But if you can't enjoy scoring your goals, then there's a problem.

'Now, I understand there is a line where you start to incite problems as well, so there is an important distinguishing factor there.'

Southgate then went on to factor in the relentless prostitute and elephant related song that Arsenal's travelling support targeted at Adebayor throughout City's stunning 4-2 win:

'But I stand in the dug-out and get abuse at away grounds, players get abuse at grounds and yet when the boot is on the other foot, we are quick to jump on people's backs. I don't go for people saying it's totally out of order. The wind-up goes both ways.

'If you give it, you have to take it. If people can't accept somebody celebrating, they maybe shouldn't give him the sort of stick he was getting during the game.'

He's got a point. City fans barracked Wayne Rooney throughout the last Eastlands derby and nobody in 'Fleet Street' batted an eyelid when he did his wind up victory dance right alongside the City support after hitting the winner.

From what we've seen this past few days, certainly Arsenal supporters couldn't have handled it.

Where was the media's angry lynch mob then?

Gareth Southgate has brought a sense of normality and calm to this situation by showing an understanding and simply asking why did the Arsenal fans get so worked up and why give it out if you can't take it back. The problem is that the old gits in suits at the FA lack any footballing knowledge or any sense of the real world.

Those suits are bandwaggoners who pander to the hacks.

The hacks and old codgers should perhaps try and seek the advice of people who are actually at the coal face before they jump to any conclusions. Cheers for giving us some perspective Gareth, but I'm pretty sure it won't do any good at kangaroo court.
