The majority of Manchester City fans who voted on our forum poll thought Monday nights match referee, Mike Dean did a great job.
The question was...
Villa V MCFC: Referee Mike Dean. Points Out Of Five
You can visit the poll question here and vote.
This is what a few of our members said:
bluemooner_mcfc - 'I thought he was spot on tonight to be fair and tried to let play go on and kept up with play all the time.'
fifthcolumnblue - 'Didn't make himself the centre of attention - which is how the refs should be! Did think we had a decent penalty shout, but haven't a clue whether the ref saw it or not. I'll give him 3.5, but voted for 3.'
Tudor - 'Overall, I gave Mr Dean 4 out of 5. He wasn't perfect (who is?) however I can't grumble. Fair game, fair play, fair result.'
Kevinho - '3 out of 5 - He let play go on far too many occasions when he should have awarded free kicks. He was also conned by several Villa players going down far too easily 4 or 5 strides after any contact was made and failed to book any of their players for diving on the numerous occasions where they were appealing for free kicks where he deemed that there was no contact.'
'At least it was an improvement on his performance when he refereed City v Spurs last season.'
Buzz Lightyear - 'I gave him 4, but the yellow card for SWP was a joke, but he kept the game going and tried to play the advantage where he could.'
'Kev it seems that all player go down too easily when you put a hand on them and Mr Dean recognised that in the first few minutes of the game and that signalled the players that he wasn't going to be fooled easily.'
Spooks - '4 out of 5 for me. To be honest I didn't even notice the ref that much which is probably a good indication that he didn't influence the game a whole lot.'
Lando78 - 'Apart from the Yellow given to SWP he had a top game.'![]()
