Another shot in the arm for resurgent City's season. Versatile Belgian international Vincent Kompany has signed on with The Blues for another five years...
Barçelona for one european force have been tracking Vinny for some time, but the player who returned to action in City colours as a second half substitute at Wigan says he wants to be a part of an already promising 2009-2010 campaign and beyond:
'There has been no speculation from my side because I have just signed the new deal but it is the kind of thing you have to get used to when you play for this club now. In the end you just don't pay attention to the speculation. City's ambitions are my ambitions and I want to be one of the main players in a very big team. We are a mature side now and the big improvements this season have been in mentality and professionalism. That is why we are better than we were last season.'
Vinny also gave an indication as to where he hopes to continue to make his name in Sky Blue:
'My favourite position is in midfield but I can deliver just as good a job from central defence. Whenever I get the chance to play then I just try to take it.'
The Blues now have 8 Premier League games under their belt and 5 of those matches have been played away from home. The side are comfortably placed in 5th position with a game in hand.
With those facts and points in the bank and the knowledge that the likes of Kompany, Johnson and Santa Cruz are on the comeback trail, City fans can look forward to Christmas potentially coming early this year. Many of us are already sensing blood as we eye our trip to Liverpool next month as becoming one of the season's defining moments.
